| OMG! Praying that Wylie is okay... From: Scorpion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia First aid First aid for scorpion stings is generally symptomatic. It includes strong analgesia, either systemic (opiates or paracetamol) or locally applied (such as a cold compress). Hypertensive crises are treated with anxiolytics and vasodilators.[30] Medical use The key ingredient of the venom is a scorpion toxin protein. Short chain scorpion toxins constitute the largest group of potassium (K+) channel blocking peptides; an important physiological role of the KCNA3 channel, also known as KV1.3, is to help maintain large electrical gradients for the sustained transport of ions such as Ca2+ that controls T lymphocyte (T cell) proliferation. Thus KV1.3 blockers could be potential immunosuppressants for the treatment of autoimmune disorders (such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease and multiple sclerosis).[31] The venom of Uroplectes lineatus is clinically important in dermatology.[32] Toxins being investigated include: Chlorotoxin is a 36-amino acid peptide found in the venom of the deathstalker scorpion (Leiurus quinquestriatus) which blocks small-conductance chloride channels.[33] The fact that chlorotoxin binds preferentially to glioma cells has allowed the development of new methods, that still are under investigation, for the treatment and diagnosis of several types of cancer.[34] Maurotoxin from the venom of the Tunisian Scorpio maurus palmatus Also says they glow under a blacklight. Lots of solutions here: Help get rid of Scorpions - have dogs - Southwestern Gardening Forum - GardenWeb In summary: Chickens, cats, peacocks eat them. Catch them at night using long tweezers or forceps and a blacklight. Spraying doesn't work. Ultrasonic plug in devices do work. Remove any debris from around the house, seal all cracks, and apply boric acid to baseboards, outlets, and cabinets. Diatomaceous earth (Garden Center) for the yard. Attracted to water, maybe insects (crickets, ants) spray for them, and remove any water sources in the yard and house, fix any leaks/dripping faucets. Find the nest and remove/destroy it. If not, problem won't go away. Check under appliances. Most are as toxic as a bee sting, unless one is allergic. Hope this helps... Keeping you all in my prayers...

| Also, plant lavender (there is a french variety) in the yard and around the house, harvest some in bloom and bring it inside.

| I'm so glad Wylie is alright! BettyBoop will go after anything that crawls. I grew up with those nasty critters and have been stung several times in the middle of the night. No fun! Give Wylie some extra TLC. It always made me feel better.

| i use to live in AZ, and had been stung 3 different times over the years OMG they hurt. i had more than 1 exterminator tell use that spray doesnt do any good unless you get the spray directley on them. we lost many a baby goats to there sting. but boy o boy did the chickens love to eat them. kinda wierd that they didnt die from the bites. Hope your baby is doing ok, keep a close eye on him. its the one thing i dont miss about AZ, besides the crazy freeways.

| How is little Wylie today? I hope he is doing well. I told my father what happened and he said that when we lived in AZ out on McCormick Ranch when it was still more desert than anything, he had the house and entire yard sprayed once a month and we never saw a single scorpion. However, he noted that was in the 70s and more potent chemicals were probably allowed at that time.

Just get a bunc of chickens out and around your house. That way they eat the scorpions and Wylie can get his exercise chasing chickens! I never knew chickens ate scorpions. Cool!
