| ![]() Please reread what I wrote. I did recommend that Lady be taken to a Lab Rescue. I think only a professional can determine if she has an aggression issue. When a dog kills a rabbit, chicken etc. that is very different than dog to dog aggression. I am sorry that I ended with the statement with, 'If she were my dog I would put her down.' What I would do, is totally irrelevant. When I raised my Labs many were trained as service dogs, so temperment was my prime concern. It was thoughtless of me to blurt that out. I am sorry. |

Oh that sounds like a wonderful place for her. Labs are so intelligent and I know just by what you have written that Lady is definitely not a terrible dog and should not be treated as such. Like your vet said domesticated dogs still have instincts and something happened that you may never understand but I know you still love Lady and will decide to do what you think is best for her. I am sure your children love her too but if they are now scared and apprehensive around her it may be best for her to live somewhere else but that is up to you and I am sure you will find the strength to make that decision (which is hard when still recovering from the tragic loss of your other sweet dog). I grew up with the sweetest lab ever and he was such a loyal amazing dog so I can't imagine how hard this is for you and I hope you have a close support system at home and you always your friends here on YT to lean on too!! Please let me know how you are all doing and what decision you make for Lady. Take care!! *HUGS*

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() For those interested. The vet just called and Lady was finally spayed today. Not going to get into why we waited. But he told me the surgery took a lot longer than expected because her one ovary was the size of a fist and had a cyst on it. He said she must have been in pain and this could have made her very irritable and could be a reason as to why she did what she did to Casper. Who knows for sure why this happened. But I think both reasons seem to make sense to me. It sucks and I am so sad, but there is nothing I can do about it now.

| ![]() Dogs in pain can do things they don't normally do so that definitely may be a factor to what happened. Thanks for keeping us updated! ![]()

| ![]() I am so sorry about what happened. Your lab may have been in pain and turned aggressive because of it. i am very glad she is feeling better and the cyst was removed. This is a very difficult decision . I think I would keep her too.

| ![]() I have to agree with the person who said that the dog should be given to a rescue. I would not have that unpredictable dog around my children or my other dog. I am so sorry for your loss but I can't condone keeping that dog after what it did. It just shows that the dog is unreliable and unstable, even if in pain. It's no excuse. I hope you do what is right for your family and give up the dog to a reputable rescue. Good luck to you all, and again, I am very sorry for your loss.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Casper had CHF, a collapsed Trachia. I imagine Pneumonia again and he had a polyp on his Anus. Too old to remove, so very possibly cancer too and his organs may have been failing as well. He had a God awful cough. All I know is that these two dogs got along very well for 3 years.

| ![]() This is a horrible situation, and I do feel badly for your loss and the pain you and your family is going through. I am concerned because whenever big and little dogs are kept together, there is always a risk of injury, and the little dog will always be the one to suffer. I had a GSD, a maltese, and a yorkie at the same time. I got lucky, there were no fights that resulted in injuries. After the GSD and Maltese passed away, I was left with my Yorkie. He was very depressed, so we got 2 more Yorkies and a Biewer to keep him company. Tinkerbell is 14 pounds, Peek a Boo is 7 on a good day. Their first day together, Peek went after Tink, basically, she opened her mouth and his head slid into her mouth. She did not bite down. Her teeth did injure the skin on his nose, he had cuts, not puncture wounds. He had one cut on his lower eyelid, which began to swell immediately. I cleaned all the wounds I could find with Sterile saline, and applied Triple AB ointment, and took him directly to the vet to check for any injuries to his eyes. The swelling was gone by the time we arrived. Nothing else was found, so we went home. The next day he had a large amount of pus in his eye. I rinsed the eye, and as I was applying the TAB eye ointment, I saw another cut on the inside of his lower lid. We were very lucky a tooth did not puncture his eye. If this had been a large breed dog that bit down, he would have been killed. So even a large Yorkie can be a problem, enough to cause serious damage to a smaller Yorkie. Also, having multiple dogs can pose problems. The first year my four were together, if one stumbled or took a bad step, the other 3 were right there, I thought ready to attack. Same if one sneezed or coughed. Thank goodness I haven't seen that behavior for quite a while. But it is still in the back of my mind. This is why I interrupt all arguments between them. Fighting is absolutely not allowed. If I am not sure what they are doing, I stop them. And bc of behavior problems with Tink, rough play is not allowed, either. Nor bullying. By jumping in I am also reinforcing my position as the Alpha. It is more work having multiples, and I really have to be paying attention all the time. It has gotten easier, as now I can read their body language and can hear the difference when they bark or whine enough to know what's going on, and whether or not I need to intervene. I wish you luck with whichever decision you make...

| ![]() What is Predatory Drift? | Go Dog Training | Blogs on DogTime.com Predatory drift scares me when it comes to very large and very small dogs being together. That said, a dog who has a dibilitating illness can be seek to be 'weak' to the other dog and that can provoke an attack. Really, it's hard to know. But I don't think that an attack on another dog would necessarily lead to a dog to attack a human. But you must never have them together now. THAT would worry me.
