Like Kristin said, the Schirmer test will be done and should easily be able decide if your baby has dry eye. There are several treatments availble and hopefully, IF your Teddy does have dry eye, one of these will work.

Hi thank you for the link. I think that corneal ulceration was checked for at the last vet visit? I might be wrong though ...he did that flouriscine test?

Yes, this is the test used to check for ulcers of the eye.

The person I spoke to on the phone told me that a consultation is $150. Is this the average price for a specialist? I'm not worried/struggling with money or anything I'm just honestly curious?

I am not sure about prices in your area but I just had Maddie at University of Tennessee with the opthomologist. She had surgery to help her dry eye.
Before the surgery, we were seeing the opthomologist for consultation and treatment.
The regular office visits ran me between $150 and $200. This included several tests and very thorough exam.

It was posted as being non irritating to the eye and I wanted people to fully realize how dangerous a steroid can be to a pup's eye.

Try and relax , easier said than done, huh?
There is no way to know it is dry eye without being examined and even if it is, like I mentioned earlier, there are several treatments available that have proven to be successful before thinking about surgery.

Hopefully, your visit Thurs. will prove you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the info. I thought it was similar to a vet where they charge you for an examination fee and then additionally charge you extra for each test conducted...the $150-$200 is very reasonable considering that includes tests and examination.

No problem. We have dealt with eye issues almost all Maddie's life. You will feel much better after seeing the optho. I left knowing exactly what the problem was and what my options were for treating. No guessing or treating symptoms and wondering about the problem. Now, relax!

You should call and ask if that is the case so that you know for sure.

It's not going to make a difference...to me anyway. It's something I need to do regardless of how much it costs. I've set aside...a good amount of money in case of an emergency/surgery etc. Also, they are the only opthamologist in the area so it's not like I could go somewhere else even if I wanted to. LIke Maddie said, at least I will finally know exactly what's wrong with Teddy and the course of action that needs to be taken to help Teddy...and that reassurance to me is priceless.
