| ![]() Many of us have dogs with MVD here. My dog is almost 11 and she has MVD. When did you find out and what diet is she on?

| ![]() yes, lots of us have MVD dogs here, most of them can be controlled with just diet, some require supplements, however, many live a normal lifespan with this disease, some dogs never show symptoms. Both of my yorkies have MVD- they are both managed with diet alone, nothing prescription- just low protein. 1 is totally asymptomatic, the other has some small symptoms but with some small lifestyle changes she does totally fine. Have you seen a good vet who can explain MVD to you and help you create a diet plan? This is NOT a life sentence- you should read up on the disease and try to learn about what is good/bad for your dog- but again this is not a life sentence! Please feel free to ask as many questions as you want- there are plenty of us here who can try and tell you about our experiences, also feel free to PM anytime. Good Luck with your little one.

| ![]() Hi, My Lucy has mild MVD. She is asymptomatic - as long as we don't allow too much protein or the wrong kind of protein into her diet. She is not on any kind of medications at this point. She will be 2 in August and was diagnosed before she was 6 months old. She walks; she plays; she does everything a normal dog would do. I was feeding her Natural Balance Vegetarian; she ate that for about a year and got tired of it. I now feed her Blue Buffalo Senior Version which is 18% protein. That may be too much protein for your dog ~ depending on the severity of their MVD. MVD is not a death sentence for most. You need someone who can work with you through this (a good vet); make diet recommendations and prescriptions if you need them. Please don't give up hope!
