| ![]() Thanks Patti! That's what I plan on doing. Last night was terrifying; I actually thought he was going to pass away I was so scared and it didn't help i couldn't locate an emergency vet that was open late. I'm in the inland empire area of socal so if anyone knows for future reference that would be great! At this point though I think I will just give him chicken, rice and other healthy food with the probiotics. |

| ![]() When you called, did the person you spoke with put you on hold and talk with the vet or did he/she just sputter that nonsense about taking the med every other day?? Does the vet know that your pup may have had a seizure? If he/she did not speak with the vet and was giving your their advice then I would call back and ask to speak with the vet...no one else...the vet!

| ![]() Dogs don't just have seizures for the heck of it. There is a cause and you need a vet to diagnose and treat your dog. If a vet's front desk staff told you it was not necessary to bring in your dog, you need to let the vet know that. Front desk staff are not qualified to determine if your dog needs to be seen or not. And any vet allowing his/her staff to do this is not one I'd take my dog to. Please get this dog back to a vet before you have more seizures on your hands and a possible severe situation.

Does the vet know that your pup may have had a seizure? ![]() ![]() If your pup seized from Metro, the drug needs to be stopped and the dog needs to be assessed by a licensed veterinarian. If the seizure was caused by something else, then the dog needs to be examined by a licensed veterinarian. And we don't even have absolutely certainly that it was a seizure by the description. Unfortunately, even amazing vets can have terrible office staff and they may not know what is going on up front. It's impossible to monitor everything their front desk staff is doing. And if this was a tech, well, they aren't qualified to give this kind of advice. And if it was a tech relaying the info to a vet, I've seen that get mixed up or whatever a time or two or three... You and the vet need to talk if you haven't already. If the vet gave you the above advice, then it's time to find a new one quickly.

| ![]() Definitely agree with the other posters if the staff gave you the advice speak with the vet and if the vet did not have you bring in the dog asap for an evaluation after the episode look for a new vet. Hopefully you go go to one the of the vets that Cathy from Riverside provided. Best wishes to you and your baby.

| ![]() Thanks for the advice everyone! It's a long drive but I'm going to Lakewood tomorrow to see another vet. He told me he could see me tomorrow and even told me what things to look for before I get there. He told me tonight to give him some chicken and rice with the probiotic for dinner which I did and Kobe loved it! Yay! He also told me to give him a little bit of nutrical or honey to make sure his blood sugars aren't low so I did that as well. He also advised to not give any more of the pills until he evaluates Kobe because he doesnt want to risk anything else happening; just in case those pills were the cause. HE said that he's not sure yet, but from I told him, it sounds like Kobe did have an overdose. He doesn't understand that if the doctor already gave Kobe antibiotics and the metro already, why he needed an extra dosage four hours later. But we will be certain tomorrow what's going on once the vet examines him. He sounds like an amazing doctor and I appreciate the fact that I have never seen him before yet he took the time to speak to me and answer all questions and concerns I had, unlike the vet I saw but never returned my call. I will keep you all updated and let you know what happens tomorrow! Wish Kobe good luck! ![]() |

| ![]() Hello everyone! Sorry about the late update, but since Kobe had his seizure, today was the first time I actually slept! At the docs today, Kobe was given tests on his blood, stool, and liver. The doctor said that he definately had an overdose and td me to not give him any metro. He talked about the importance of diet and to switch foods very gradually. He told me once again to keep giving him the probiotic with his food and his stool has actually since began to form; it's still soft but not runny with mucous. He also told me that metro is a great medicine to help with runny stools and cordecia (sp?) but he doesn't want to risk anything because of Kobes size. He also shaved Kobes bum for me and put a cream there since he was a little irritated back there. But Kobe is doing so much better! He's eating like a pig, as usual, and hes playing a lot. The doctor also warned me that small dogs can have seizures and to just always have that in mind and be prepared at all times, meaning for example knowing where the nearest emergency vet is. He scolded me a lite for that, but it wasn't offensive at all; he was genuinely nice and was just concerned and caring. In all the doctor was great! And thank you all again for your help and concern! |
