| Rushed Holly to Emergency Vet. Very bloody diarrhea. I rushed Holly to the emergency vet tonight around midnight for very bloody diarrhea and lots of it. This is much more than the blood tinged diarrhea that my girls get occasionally. She also started vomiting and would not eat dinner tonight. She is drinking and acting okay though. She is having x-rays, blood work, IV fluids, meds to quiet her gut down and some IV antibiotics. I'm very worried about her. We can't figure out anything she could have gotten into. The vet thinks she might have picked up an infection at the park or the groomers. I'm waiting on a call back from the vet to see how she is doing. Holly will stay at the vet probably until Sunday evening. Has anyone had something similar go on with their Yorkie and what was the cause? Would appreciate well wishes for my dear little girl.

| Betty Boop did the same thing last year. She eats everything she can find in the yard and the vet felt like this caused the problem. We have oak trees that drop acorns and acorns are poisonous, sticks, weeds, etc. Her poop was very bloody and mucousy. She never vomited though. I can't remember what meds he gave her but it did the trick. She hasn't had any problems since. Does your baby nibble on things outside? It sure doesn't take much to upset their systems. I pray Holly will be better soon. Keep us posted.

| So sorry to hear about poor Holly. Did they test for HGE? It's faily common in small dogs and they're not sure what causes it, just sudden onset of bloody diarrhea. I'll keep her in my prayers.

| Holly is doing better. Thanks so much! It was the fear of HGE that was one of the reasons I took her to the vet. She had no more diarrhea or vomiting after she was admitted. She has been on IV fluids, IV antibiotics and other meds all night and is doing okay. She was quite dehydrated. With the exception of dehydration her labs were all okay, as were her x-rays. They will start her on clear fluids shortly and then will try a soft diet. Once she is eating something and not having diarrhea or vomiting she can come home, hopefully this evening. Even though I am an RN, it was still so scary seeing all of that blood! If it happens again I hope it does so during my own vet's business hours. The emergency vet is crazy expensive. But I can't put a price tag on my Holly. Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers. It means a lot.

| Apple had the same thing a few months back...Also, on a Sunday!...I guess we'll never know if she had HGE or if it was eating hibiscus seeds, or perhaps even stress (I had out of town company w/two chins here for a couple of weeks)...I eliminated every single thing she was eating, and had her on ID for a few weeks, and slowly added back everything, one thing at a time, slowly...All is well, so it wasn't her food...My best advice is to add food back verrrrrrrrry slowly...I tried a week later, first time, and she had another episode...Next time, ER dr. said don't try for 3 weeks...Your baby will be fine w/care...Key word here is care, and you are doing that...Bless her little heart, hope she gets well very soon...Took my Apple about 6 weeks to get back to her old obnoxious self... |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am glad Holly is doing better. Cali had symptoms like that when she had HGE. It is very scary.
