| Zoey Grace has a collapsed trachea [COLOR="Purple"]Our 3 year old yorkie Zoey Grace was diagnosed with a collapsed trachea. She was honking bad for a few days, and after many trips to the er, she has finally calmed down. No honking for 2 days now. They have her on Hydrocodone, Prednisone and Doxycycline. If the meds don't work, she may have to have a stint put in. We will have to go to Knoxville, Tennessee for the procedure. Also the doctor said where she had her neck fused together (she was born with a detached neck) two of her pins are broken and one is sticking out. He looked at the xrays and said the pins are not why her trachea is collapsed. But that the pins could become an issue later. We wonder how much do you put these little ones through? We will do anything to keep her around, but is it in her best interest? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!!!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry to hear about Zoey Grace. I had a yorkie Gracie that I lost at 6 1/2 due to a collapsed trachea and where hers was and 20 years ago, surgery wasn't an option. She did well on meds for over a year until it all took it's toll on her heart and lungs. She let me know when enough was enough. I will keep Zoey in my prayers.

| Im so sorry to hear about Zoey Im going through the same thing with my little girl molly, surgery is not a option for her Ive learned on my own along the way in dealing with her, things that help make her more comfortable, I keep her cut very short as it seems to help her breathing. this is a awful awful diease and i wish they could find a better cure. she loves to play and i let her but i limit her, even walking is hard, also her weight is a factor so ive restricted her treat intake. I will be praying for your little one molly will be 4 this yr.

| I'm so sorry she has been so sick. I'm sending my prayers for Zoey Grace. Only you and her doctors can make the decision for her quality of life. She may do very well and I really hope she does.

| I lost my little one, Gracie, to collapsed trachea that couldn't be helped by surgery. She was only 9.5 years old, but she was so full of life during her lifetime. The best thing I could do for her was to try to get her to stop getting too excited. Once her breathing got difficult for her, I had to cool her body off quickly--by using a spray bottle of water, carrying ice with me at all times, or bringing her body temperature down in a sink of cool water. Once her body temperature came down, her breathing would go back to normal. Gracie was the most loving, happiest, and playful little girl. As much as I worried about Gracie and needed to be very careful and proactive with her, I fortunately never had to question the quality of her life. I always had hope, and it's one thing I wish for you. My prayers are with you and Zoey, and I also hope that her health improves.

| I too lost my 12 yr old Little Spark of Fire (Sparky) 10 years ago. Just a thought, make sure you know what your vet is doing to your little one. Sparky had a bad attack and threw up a huge pile of jello like mucus. Rushed him to the vet where they put a tube down his trachea to help him breathe. The tube was too big for this little 4 pounder and they ruptured his trachea. The vet was closing so they told me to take him to er. He died in my arms on the way there. Be careful. It's your right to see what they are doing to your baby. I think of him every day. My heartfelt prayers go out to you and Zoey. I hope everthing comes out ok |

| Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. It is a tough decision to make about Zoey. My husband and I both think that if we do have the surgery done on her,we would have done everything possible for her that could be done. We just worry about the trip. She honks bad in a car ride. Don't know if she would survive a 4 hour car trip without being sedated. And not sure thats a good idea.
