| The vet has not called me back and the office is now closed. I'm hoping she was busy and will call me after hours. This wasn't Max's regular doctor as I took the first available appt on Monday morning. Ugghh...I just want some answers

| Ok, she just called. I am not familiar with the normal levels of bile acids. She said the both Max's pre-meal and post-meal BAT results were elevated in the 40s. She is sending his record over to the specialists in the morning, and I will call for an appt. ASAP. She wants me to set up the appt with internal medicine rather than neuro, as they can consult each other since they are in the same office. Thoughts?

| That's not a level I'd think would be causing seizures. Pre normal is under 10 and post normal is under 20. My daisy was post 107 never neurological but I suppose every dog is different.

| Forgot to say that post over 100 is usually indicative of a shunt

| I'm glad I have you guys...I feel lost with what decisions to make. I"ll see what they say about seeing neuro when I call tomorrow for the appt.

| I think you also need IMS for the liver but I would want to get to cause of seizures first or in tandem with IMS. Bye bye tax refund

| Didn't someone mention that the drugs Max was put on would elevate the BATS? I remember reading that somewhere. I don't think 40 sounds very high.

| I said that diazepam and derivatives are hard for dogs with MVD and/or shunt to handle as they are metabolized by the liver so I was wondering whether the use of Valium in all dogs might raise BAT results but I don't know the answer. 40 isn't that high if a shunt was suspected since shunts are usually over 100 postprandial (but even then, over 100 is not always a shunt as with my dog Daisy).
