Basil is doing good, but I sure hope that Charlie gets better! It is a scary thing! |
Today she is being a little stubborn! She got into the cat food last night and she isn't trying to even go. I have been awake with her for an hour now. It is 5:20 a.m. I have taken her out three times already. No probs with pee, at least she hasn't tried to go and strained, she just doesn't have the desire to go. So I will be keeping a close eye on her. I get out of work at 1:30 today, so I will be home to watch her. My fiance is awake and he knows the situation already. He will also be keeping an eye on her too. He leaves for work about 7, and he will be onlunch in the afternoon. He will try once more before he goes to work. Wish us luck! |
Wish you all the luck...and Basil, you better be a good girl and leave the cat food alone. Probably one of many things you are going to find interesting in her poop...lol |
Checking in Just checking on Basil wanted to see how things were going. and I was wondering, (and I mays have missed a post on this) are we hoping that the lactulose will FIX the problem or is it simply to get Basil ready for a different kind of treatment. I think I understood that the mega colon was a result of Basil being constipated for so long, so is the lactulose suppose to be cleaning her out so that they can do something more? once she is cleaned out will the mega colon go away? still praying |
1. 3cc Amoxicilian ~ Prevent Infection 2. 6cc Tramadol ~ Pain {From procedure they did} 3. 1cc Lactulose ~ Stool Softener 4. 1 tablet Prednisone ~ To help with her swollen intestine 5. 3cc Metoclopramide ~ To stop the acid reflex {caused from the anestesia} She gets: 1. Morning/Night 2. Night 3. 1cc Morning/2cc mixed in food/1cc night 4. Morning 5. Night I bring her back to the Specialist next week for a follow up. We are looking at long term medication. So we will be adjusting her doses and possible changing some things around. Hopefully soon she will only be on one or two medicines. But, she is thriving so far! Today a bit of a problem, but nothing to worrying. Just got in the darn cat food again. |
No the mega colon will never go away, it is congenital. She was born with it. It was compacted and the vets cleaned her out with her treatments they day while she was on anesthesia. The lactulose keeps her regular! Human also take this medicne when they have mega colon. I asked the doc all about the mega colon and if it can correct itself, but nope. She isn't having the easiest time today, nor yesterday. Got me on my toes. Dosed her up with the lactulose and preying lots comes out. Last night lots came out, but she feels a but full in there. Still got her energy and all, but she did cry a little earlier. she is a bit constipated. Prey she can relax some and let it flow! I am on such a roller coaster ride with her health. We are not home so she is kind of weary of her wear abouts, she has gone a few times today but nothing like the past few days and almost the week. So she needs to relax to make things normal. The vet did say regular greek yogurt would help so I will pick up some tomorrow if things are still not flowing right. |
I know you already know this, but I have to say it: you really need to find a way to keep her out of the cat food. I have a feeling this is not helping at all. That said, she is lucky to have you.....you have educated yourself well about this condition and are doing your best to care for her. :) |

Deff working on it! I know it isn't helping at all. We had a baracade up and she proved me wrong on her abilities. I was in the kitchen cleaning up looked down to see a little helper next to me. So she figured out she can jump over my baracade. She will be with me all week, no cats around just a few more yorkies and a pit bull. So tomorrow brings better hopes! |
Can you put the cat food up high where the cat can get it but she cannot? The cat can jump up on something to get her food! |
