Yorkie Yakker | Diagnoised with Atlantoaxial Instability (Luxation) AAI I have a 5 month old male baby that I love so much!! I took him to vet when he began walking very clumsy. Was referred to Nero Vet Specialist in Nashville, TN. There he was diagnoised with Atlantoaxial Instability (Luxation) or AAI and need surgery. The cost will be around $3000. I cannot afford this. I have applied to EVERY website online that offers assistance but have been turned down by everyone of them!! Some of you may remember me from my last little yorkie, Hootie. Hootie had a liver shunt, I did (was able to at the time) pay for his surgery, and then he died the next day. So, am still paying on THAT surgery, credit cards are maxed out and am laid off with my unemployment ending in 2 weeks. Does anyone have ANY suggestions on where I could take him for free surgery??? Am at a dead end on this and Piper is already very advanced, can't hardly walk, turn his head, getting up from sitting is extremely difficult and he usually falls over. My vet suggested putting him down since I have been down this road before but I just can't do it. Finished maxing out my credit card just GETTING the diagnosis!! (Almost $600 just for that!). Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Ms. Charlie |

| How long ago did you get the diagnosis? If you can't afford it, and you haven't had any luck with assistance, you need to make a decision. Put him down or give him up. I would give him to a reputable rescue where he will be in good hands. Waiting for a miracle to happen while he gets worse is cruel. I think you already got your answer in the other thread you posted. At this point, any decision is better than letting him suffer.

| What an angel. I read his story, and started crying. If only I was closer. My husband says that if I had my way, I would rescue every dog I could. Alot of people, especially taking into the consideration the economic climate, don't consider the expense of a dog. Especially in this case that she lost her job suddenly. We decided when we got Gizmo, not only to search for pet insurance, but to set aside a separate savings account to deposit so much in weekly that's reserved for any expenses Gizmo has. So, that's helped us alot. However, I think the OP did the right thing. My heartbreaks for her, but in the end she was unselfish and put the dog first. God bless you OP for that. Hugs to you, and I hope you're doing okay.
