| I'm just reading this. I am so glad Chloe is feeling better. You were so wise not to wait to get her back to the emergency vet.

| I'm so glad you took her in for more treatment... I'm just hoping that maybe you were able to see a different vet this time? And, yes, that much vomiting and diarrhea can really take a toll on any dog (humans too). And it does take time to restore the fluids that were lost, not to mention the blood that was lost. IV Fluids cannot be given too quickly, nor too much at one time, as they can end up in the wrong places (lungs). And as they can lose so much fluid and become severly dehydrated in such a short time, you can see how dangerous this HGE is, and why it can take longer to get them rehydrated and back to a healthy state. I would also call her regular vet to let him know what is going on with her. Maybe he could consult on her treatment? Or you could request that he be involved? IDK, but it would be worth asking about IMHO. I will be praying that she makes a rapid recovery... I know when the clinic where I worked sent HGE cases home, their PCV's were normal, the pups were eating and drinking on their own for one entire day at the hospital, and they were 'bouncing off the walls' wanting to go home! Just read your latest update.... that sounds more like it! Yay! And the recheck with your vet later! Yay!

| Chloe went in to see my vet this morning. His wife been very ill and has been very and been in and out of the hospital for the last month so I wasn't able to get her in yesterday so I took her first thing this morning. He said her prognosis is very good because we got her treatment quickly and without it she could have died. He wants her on a bland low fiber diet for at least the next 2 weeks and he will recheck her then to see if we can start getting her back on her regular diet. |

| This was an interesting post, and glad Chloe is doing so well. My girlfriend's Westie looked like he was going downhill fast, and we took him to the university vet teaching hospital in Denver. They immediately put him on IV fluids and he perked up a lot the next day. He's doing fine now, but I think it's a lesson that when small dogs get dehydrated they really need emergency care asap. |
