| ![]() Does anyone have any experience with a prolapsed third eyelid, or cherry eye with any of your dogs? My little baby, 16 week old malti-tzu, just developed this (or so it appears) yesterday in one eye. Of course when I saw it I didn't know what it was so I googled what I saw and I saw several photos that looked exactly like it and several articles about it. The membrane is showing in the lower inner corner and it is teary and sometimes mucus-y. She doesn't act as though she is in any pain, but most of what I read sounded like if left untreated it could be pretty bad. I'm calling in to work & taking her to the vet first thing in the morning. I was just wondering if anyone has had any personal experience with their dogs and what the course of treatment was. Thanks in advance.

| ![]() Usually surgery to repair Cherry Eye in a young dog. Are you sure it is just not an inection? My Corso one morning has one red eye at the bottom, swollen, and mucusy...I thought it was Cherry Eye, got him to the Bet, and it was just an infection that an antibiotic eyedrop cleared up ion a few days. I asked what if it was Cherry eye, and she said we would mange it other ways besides surgery. Good luck, and if it is that, it can be repaired. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() My sister's cocker had it in both eyes. She had surgery and was fine afterwards. I don't think the cost was too bad either. It's been 5 years and she has had no problems with it. I think in some cases the vet can put it back but it may come back. Good luck.

| ![]() Are you sure it's cherry eye? Tearing and a mucous discharge sound more like an infection to me. Lady had cherry eye when I adopted her, but no discomfort at all. My vet repaired it during her dental for cosmetic reasons. Cherry Eye |

| ![]() Thanks so much for your replies. No, I'm not at all sure it's cherry eye. It just looks exactly like the pictures online. I'll try to upload a picture of it. I'll be in the vet's ofc as soon as they open in the morning and I'm praying it's an infection or something eyedrops can fix. Poor baby. I feel so badly for her. I just cried when I saw how pitiful she looked. She looked at me as if to say, "what's the matter with you???" She doesn't seem know the difference at all. I have to watch closely because Brooklyn- my yorkie- keeps trying to lick her eye. ![]()

| ![]() Here is a picture of Kymmi's eye. She is looking away. It looks as if I'm pulling her eye down but I'm not. Sometimes the membrane showing is even larger than on this picture. I circled the discharge and the cherry eye or infection- whatever the case may be. Sorry for the poor quality picture, I took it with my phone.

Hmm...it sure does look like cherry eye, doesn't it? Shih Tzus have bulging eyes that are prone to injury, though. Glad you are taking her to the vet tomorrow. Please update us when you can. | |

| ![]() You will know tomorrow, and your mind will be at wease, and the pup will get fixed up. Carlo's eye was also a bit swollen, the lid I should say, so it even looked a bit droopy, red, and watery. Amazing how much we worry about them. My dog gets a growth I rush them to the vet. I get a growth, I debate going.... |

Haha...I can SO relate. By the time I get to a doctor, I am half dead; but my pups go at the first sign of an issue. Good luck at the vet tomorrow! Please let us know how things go!

| ![]() Not sure what to do. I didn't have to call in to work bc work/school- I'm a teacher- was cancelled due to the weather. However, we woke up to a completely normal eye. No trace of anything ever happening. No discharge, no swelling, no membrane showing.... I'm going to wait a bit and see before going to the vet, but I've been watching it since 6am and nothing.... Maybe it was just irritated??? What do ya think?

| ![]() I think she might have gotten something into it and it got inflammed. I would have it checked out though just to put your mind at ease. I know that Shih Tzu's eyes are bulgy because I have a shih tzu and and shorkie. One day Zoe my shorkie got something into her eye and then it was gone but I brought her to the vet anyway. The vet said it was a bit inflammed and he gave me some kind of eye drops for her. I would want to be sure. |

| ![]() BTW, my main vet's number is constantly busy and my alternate vet's number goes straight to voicemail. I'm wondering if because of the icy roads they're closed today. If so, it would be an emergency visit. Her eye looks so normal today, I don't think I should do an emergency visit. I will just keep trying to call, maybe they're just swamped with calls. ![]()
