dog threw up milk chocolate yesterday my yorkie logan got a hold of a piece of milk chocolate/caramel. it was about two thirds the size of my pinky finger. He swallowed it whole, foil and all. Later that evening he vomited the foil with some melted chocolate. he's been sleeping more than usual but acted his normal self when my daughter came to visit. Very playful with toys and cuddling with her. After she left he went back to sleeping a lot again. no diarrhea and same eating habits. any advice?

WELCOME to YT! If I felt uneasy about his behavior I would take him to an ER clinic just to make sure. If this option is not available to you, then I would keep a close eye on him tonight, and if his behavior is still differnt in the morning, I would take him to his reg vet. Since he vomited some of it up and the foil, hopefully, he will be okay.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'd call my vet and put it in his hands. It's not the digestive problems that makes chocolate deadly, it contains Theobromine, which can have an effect on the central nervous system. Quote:

My cousin's sister in law's yellow lab at a whole box of liquor filled choclates a few months back and everybody thought it was very funny except me. The dog slept for 2 days and they said he was just hungover. I think the dog was sick and I begged them to take the dog to the vet. They refused to take the dog and said they weren't spending money to take to dog to the vet just to be told it was a hangover. Now I have no respect for them anymore. I hope the dog is alright though.

How's Logan now? My 7 pound Yorkie ate a LARGE (4" x 6" x 1/4") chocolate bar - the size that costs about $1.60. We caught him eating the candy, immediately induced vomiting, and I thought most of the chocolate came up. But he still became extremely lethargic within 12 hours. His gums showed blood through the skin, and he couldn't hold up his head or walk. He spent a week on IV's for dehydration and had other meds that I don't remember. He didn't eat for a week. He still has a wheeze and hacking cough - MONTHS later. He acts like his trachea is damaged. I don't know if the peroxide, induced vomiting, or the required Elizabethan collar damaged his neck. Please don't take any chances. Yorkies are very sensitive due to their tiny size.
