| Roundworms do come out and they can be seen once treatment is started! The two types of worms easily seen in stool are Tapes and Rounds. Maybe you misunderstood the vet? Or, she misspoke? I am CERTAIN that you can see rounds with the naked eye.

| I wish that I misunderstood. I asked her to clarify several times, I even explained to her the long spaghetti type appearance and she told me that those were probably tapeworms because tapeworms comes in two forms, which explains why they are not being affected by the panacur. She told me that I needed to give him a tablet of some sort that is specifically for tapeworm. To be fair, this was over the phone and maybe the receptionist tried to answer questions she didn't know the answer to? I don't know it's just a thought. I'm sorry if I sound condescending of the vet (it is not my intention), I'm just honestly confused. |

| All I can say is that one day you will look back and have a chuckle over all of it! It's all good...you love Teddy and want what is best for him. He is going to be just fine and you are a good mom! Get the fecal sample and take it in...I have a feeling all of the worms are probably dead. I hope so. And, even if not, he is due for one more treatment anyway!

| Please never feel like you are making a big deal over nothing. You want what is best for him and that is the way it should be.

| There are two different kinds of tapeworms, and they require two different treatments. The most common type of tapeworm, caused by ingesting an infected flea, is not treated with Panacur. I forget the proper med for treatment, but it either comes in pill or injectable. It's an easy treatment. These tapeworms cannot be passed from dog to human, the flea is a necessary part of their life cycle so in order for you to get tapeworms, you would also have to ingest an infected flea (yuk). You will need to keep fleas under control. Control the fleas, and you will control your pup's exposure to this type of tapeworm. The type of tapeworm that is treated with Panacur is caught by eating an infected rodent. Types of Tapeworms In Dogs

| I prefer to use Drontal as a de wormer. Again, I suggest that a fecal sample be done before any other de wormer is given.

| Ladyjane that is what the breeder suggested. Anyways, he finally went to the bathroom, but of course nothing came out! I'm not surprised since usually only 2 out of the 3 times he goes each day has worms in it...guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow! As for whether or not he aspirated water, the vet said that if he was coughing then that means it went down the trachea and would be an issue but he never once coughed he only heeved/sniffled but it has gone away, now he just seems to sniffle (which happened prior to the incident, but after the vaccines). Either way, when I go to the vet tomorrow with a fecal sample I will have him examined just in case, but thankfully there has been no coughing. |

No reason to be embarrassed....tapeworms are common in dogs. They get them from ingesting fleas. They are the most commonly seen ones. The drontal will get rid of them!

| Should I be worried that my place or Teddy is infested with fleas? There are SO many dogs in this apartment complex and they don't pick up after their dogs! I haven't taken him out for walks around here since I saw the worms (especially since every single time I went out there I ended up stepping on a dog turd!) He is on a monthly topical treatment for fleas, but with the tapeworm I'm worried there may be more? |

If he or your place had fleas, you would know it! He may have had them (the tapes) for a while and you only just noticed them! I would not worry myself about it. I also would not stop walking him! As long as you are using a flea preventative, I doubt he will have a problem.

| Hah nooo I just mean around my apartment complex. I go a little further out of my way and walk him around a lake close to my home. I am not particularly fond of stepping on dog poop constantly around here...and have to constantly worry that he's sniffing poop on every corner! |

| Wow I'm surprised that he had tapes and you saw spaghetti worms because usually tapes look like white rice in the stool. As Linda said, don't worry you're treating it and keeping him on monthly meds so you will be fine. I would let his breeder know that he has tapeworms though because she may have to treat her dogs.
