There are two different kinds of tapeworms, and they require two different treatments.

The most common type of tapeworm, caused by ingesting an infected flea, is not treated with Panacur. I forget the proper med for treatment, but it either comes in pill or injectable. It's an easy treatment. These tapeworms cannot be passed from dog to human, the flea is a necessary part of their life cycle so in order for you to get tapeworms, you would also have to ingest an infected flea (yuk).

You will need to keep fleas under control. Control the fleas, and you will control your pup's exposure to this type of tapeworm.

The type of tapeworm that is treated with Panacur is caught by eating an infected rodent. Types of Tapeworms In Dogs
