| My Yorkie/Bichon has stinky ears! Infection?! My yorkie/bichon's ears smelled the day we got him from the breeder. But I shrugged it off because honestly, he is from Pennsylvania Amish country and had spent most of his time in a barn smelling like...well...a barn. I've had him for a little over and month and within the last week, his ears have been smelling kinda sour and definitely smelled worse than when I had gotten him. He has always kinda pawed his face with both front paws, starting from the back of the ears down to his nose but recently it seemed to be getting more directed towards his ears. I read that this could be a yeast infection in his ears since ears aren't really supposed to smell like anything... so I've started to treat him with the home remedy of 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 alcohol. I've been taking a cotton ball and cleaning his ears. I've only done it twice today and I plan on taking him to the vet if he doesn't seem to improve in the next couple of days because if it bacterial and he needs antibiotics, I want him to get on them asap...He's almost 19 weeks old now and I don't want this affecting his hearing for the rest of his life...that would just be miserable for the little guy. Anyone here have any insight on this? Any information would help since avoiding a vet bill would be nice if I'm just overreacting. |

| I would never buy a dog from the Amish as I have heard and saw way too many things...anyway yes I would take him asap since he has had it for a while too. Who knows how long before you got him and since you have had him now over a month...yes take him in asap!! Plus I am sure he is in need of a vet check. It is best to get a vet check when you get a new puppy to make sure all well. Good luck

| ear infection Yes, be sure and get your little to a vet right away. It wasn't long after I got Belle that I noticed her ear smelled strange. I took her to the vet and she had quite a bad infection going on. It's easily cleared up once you get meds. Usually ear drop s will do it. Don't wait as it could affect her hearing. Congrats. on your baby. |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Yes take your pup to a vet ASAP. It could well be an ear infection because the ears 'smelling' can be a sign of this. When I brought my Poppy home I noticed that her ears smelled funny, kinda like... sweaty feet. Thats the only way I can describe it. I took her to the vets and turns out she had ear mites, these are VERY uncomfertable for the dog. They can be treated with a course of anti-biotics just like an ear infection, but if either are left un-treated they can turn serious.

| Agree, get your pup to the vet ASAP. Ear infections are nothing you can treat on your own. It must be determined the type of infection before it can be treated. In addition the ear will have to be flushed and all hair within the ear canal be removed.
