Carlo update as of 11/9 Just got off the phone with the Vet Cancer specialist. It is Mast Cell. 3 options. 1. Do nothing, keep him comfortable, will get worse, and he will live perhaps 2-3 months 2. Surgery, and Chemo. Vet does not recommend another surgery for Carlo due to his age, and since Mast cell is aggressive, and it is in the Liver. 3. Oral Chemo with Lomustine, 1 pill every 3 weeks, and then combine with a histamine and steroid. He believes that this is the best alternative, and may give him 6-12 months, but he said the shape Carlo is in, he would never bet against him. I am going to go with the 3rd Option, and see how he does. Will pick up the Chemo Pill in a few days, and stopping the Prednisone to get is GI tract in good shape for the pill. Took him for a 2 mile walk today., He just seems to want to live. We will see what happens, but I will not let him suffer, and he has not told me to stop! He likes it here! |
Steve I am so sorry that you received this sad news about Carlo. Hang in there and take each day one at a time. Carlo could not have a better owner and be more loved or taken care of than he has been. Stay strong. Carlo is a fighter! |
I am SO sorry. I just read your post on Carlo's liver. You are a great dad and is doing what is best for him. Oh.... this breaks my heart, but I know Carlo will have the best care possible during the next year. |
I'm very sorry to hear this, Steve. Enjoy the next months as long as Carlo is doing okay. He is one strong guy. I know you only want the best for him. |
Aw...this is so sad.... give the big guy (Carlo) hugs from us... we'll keep praying for you.... Hugs to you and your wife too... you are some great owners. |
Carlo and all of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I have a feeling Carlo is going to be around for a while! He is an amazing pupster!! :) He is so lucky to have such a loving family. |
I'm glad Carlo has you to love him. I hope he fools the doctors and sticks around for a very long time. |
Steve, I am so sorry. There are no words of comfort right now, but I hope you find strength to get through this difficult time. |
Sending much love to the big guy. Stay strong, you are all in our prayers. Sending comforting vibes to Carlo. XXOOXXOO |

Omg, Steve I am so sorry to here about Sweet Carlo. Bless you and your familly and remember you have all of us to lean on.... |
Option 3 sounds like a good one. Fingers crossed for Carlo in the coming months. |
I am quite certain that Carlo loves it here with his loving family. I am hoping that, with your love and care and our prayers, Carlo will have many healthy days ahead of him. I hope you continue to enjoy every second with him. As you know, our time with our pups is so very precious. We are here to support you and we are pulling for you and your special boy. |
At this point, you aren't so much Carlo's owner anymore. You and Carlo have a very profound 'partnership'. You'll support each other during this, yet another, trial. Carlo will let you know when he has had enough, and evidently, he is at this time, still wanting to fight. Here's to you and Carlo keeping each other strong. |
