I'm just seeing this and I'm so sorry the news is not encouraging from the vet......I know you'll do right by Carlo....My well wishes are with you and your entire family........ |
Wishing you and Carlo the best of luck. I hope he has great success with this treatment. This has to be very hard on everyone concerned. |
I'm so sorry this isn't the news we were all hoping for. :( I know Carlo is one strong fellow, and I have faith he'll tolerate the chemo regimen very well again! My bullmastiff would actually take the chemo pills (cytoxan) directly from my (gloved) hand. Crazy boy. He wasn't bothered by the oral chemo meds at all. It was nothing like the adriamycin (iv) treatments where he would usually sleep all the next day. Of course, that could have been from exhaustation after being hooked up for 8 hours surrounded by yappy dogs at the oncologist more than the drug itself. He also did injections of vincristine without side effects. They do remarkably well on chemo, but I don't think I need to tell you that when Carlo is pulling for 2 mile walks! :D |
I am sorry to hear the news about Carlo. He definitely has a strong will to live, but not just for himself, but for you and your wife. He loves you as much as you love him. Carlo and your family will be in my prayers. |
Carlo took his 100MG's of Lomustine last night and so faqr, no ill effects. He ate, chewed his nylabone, and will be heading for a walk soon. Next Monday he starts taking Triamcinolone every day also. Another Steroid, but no more of the prednisone. Thanks again for all the well wishes. Have Veterans Day! |
Sending prayers your way and hope for the best for so. |
I hope he does well on the medications. Sending special thoughts and prayers to you both! |
So sorry your didn't hear more promising news from the vet....I am praying the Carlo tolerates the treatment well and beats the odds. It sounds like he is a much loved pup and loves you very much in return. Hopefully you will hear some encouraging news after a few weeks of treatment. On another note, Happy Veteran's Day! |
4 Attachment(s) Carlo is doing fine. Been 5 days since he took the Chemo Drug Lomustine, and no ill effects. Fingers crossed that this rescue attempt for the big guy works. Here are a few pictures, and one of the Peacock on our property. |

Love the pics!! Carlo looks terrific, Steve! :) I am so glad to hear that he is tolerating the chemo well. Love his collar! :) Maxine is a sweet little one! :) I will trade you three hawks for that peacock! They are hovering over my property today and I am less than pleased. |
We always have Hawks circling overhead looking for a meal. We back up to a Forest Preserve, so we are always on the lookout and never let Maxine out alone. Carlo is always with here, or one of us. I would love to see a hawk try to carry carlo away! Better yet, it would take a huge bird, and I would rather not see it! |
Cathy swears a hawk cannot pick my pups up...but, I am not buying it. I know one picked up a rabbit down the street one day. :( |
Oh I definitely think hawks can carry away a yorkie. We have them here all the time, but they never bother the dogs. I think it's because they are close to the house. |

I also notice his collar, Bad To The Bone, I'm not buying that for one minute...his attemt to get some rest from Maxine, maybe.:D I always enjoy pics of your two, thanks for posting. Still saying prayers and sending hugs for Carlo.:) |

I am sorry to hear the news about Carlo. It sounds like he still has a lot of fight in him. Cute pics of Maxine, Carlo and your peacock neighbor. :) |
I'm so sorry about Carlo, but great news about him tolerating the meds, he sounds like a fighter :D |

When I lived on 8 acres outside San Antonio the neighbor across the street had peacocks. They had an all white one that was a huge pain in my butt. He would stand in the middle of the road and NOT MOVE, even if I gave a little courtesy honk! I was working downtown in an emergency room and my shift started at 6am so I had to leave the house at 4:45 to get there on time. I would walk out side and literally run to my truck because when the peacocks heard me they would make the creepiest noise, it sounded like a ghost child saying :heeelllppp meeee" My heart would start racing and I really thought we lived near kidnappers. That is until I figured out it was those darned peacocks! I hope you and the Biggun are staying warn this morning. It is a little chilly here in South Texas. My hubby had the chance to go after some exotics last week and took a very nice Black Buck totally free of charge. I know you are busy but I wanted to extend an invite for any day this week. I understand you are very busy with much more important things. I'll email you a few pics from my computer at home this evening. I am always thinking of you and Carlo and your ladies as well. I hope you are having a great week. Happy be-lated Veterans Day. Meg |

Would love to get down there for a Deer or Hog, and do appreciate the offer, but as you said, now is not the time with Marge's traveling for work, and the dogs, especially Carlo now. Would love to see the pics of what your husband took. Thank you so much for the kind words. |
I am just reading this. So sorry to hear about this diagnosis, but like everyone else has said he has alot of fight left in him. Prayers and good wishes for him and your family. |
I too with light a candle for Carlo :xmascand: and hope he responds well to treatment. Im sure he has alot of fight left in him yet, prayers to Carlo, you and all of your family. |
It's good to know Carlo is tolerating the new meds, prayers this will work for him. My gosh Steve....even sick, Carlo is a magnificent looking dog! And Maxine, well she is adorable as always♥ Love peacocks...even if the noise can be too much. You all are good neighbors to stand up for the owner. |
Love the pics. They are both beautiful - yes - even Carlo!:) |
Thank you. Still doing real well. He is on his 3rd day of taking the new Steroid called Triamcinolone and seems to be tolerating better than the Prednisone, and next week it gets cut back 50%. The Lomustine Chemo Drug was taken 1 week ago today, still, no ill effects. He gets another 100mg of it in 2 more weeks. Tomorrow he goes in to his regular vet for a Blood Panel and Check up and the results will be forwarded to the specialist. We are hoping this RESCUE ATTEMPT works to keep him around a while longer. I am getting ready to take him for a 2 mile walk as it looks like it is going to rain here. Before you know it, it will be snowing. Maxine is still putting him in his place, and is not showing any sympathy. She is one tough little 7 pounder! If she was as large as Carlo, not sure if we could handle her! LOL Have a great day and thanks for the good thoughts on the big goofball. |
