Buster is going in for LP Surgery

Please send good thoughts for Buster. He is going in for surgery on Thursday October 28, 2010 to fix his left back leg and a cat scan on his right front leg to see if his elbow needs fixing. I just finished making him his Halloween costume so he will have to trick or treat next year. Here are photo's of him in his costume.Reluctant Vampire.jpg

What a cutie. I will be praying he has a safe procedure. My littlest one had her LP surgery a few months ago. She did really well even with the confinement. I had several areas to confine her in so she wouldn't get bored.

Well wishes to little Buster! He is adorable...like, seriously cute!

My man had his done on 10/18 and he is healing nicely and gets his stitches out tomorrow. He began "toe touching" intermittently yesterday (9 days post surgery). It is very hard to keep him still (he thinks EVERYTHING is a game, even his dinner). I found the first 2 days to be the hardest (speaking for both of us).

Not to hijack your thread, but here is a pic of how he spent a good part of the first night. He just leaned against pillows, refusing to lay down and was whimpering on and off. He was much much better in the morning.

He might need a Ulnar Ostectomy. His radius and ulna bones might have grown to different lengths which pushes on the elbow causing it to twist. They will do a cat scan and if necessary cut one of the bones to shorten it so it does not twist the elbow. It has caused him pain for about 2 month now with him limping and lifting his foot off the ground when standing. We originally thought it was a soft tissue injury but it continued to be a problem even with restricted activity and medication. When we consulted with the Orthopedic Surgeon he felt that this might be the issue as nothing showed up on the xrays. So he will do the cat scan and then determine whether it is a soft tissue injury or the growth deformity.

Poor Baby leaning up against the pillow. I am worried about the downtime as well. He is such a frisky puppy. He will not be a happy camper. I wish they would send home something for mommie's stress LOL. I wish you and your baby well in the healing process. Did you have to keep him in a crate the whole time or could they lay in your lap if they stayed resting?

I let Pixie lay on my bed with me but I bought a little guinea pig ex pen and put it around her so she couldn't get off the bed. I would move it from room to room so she could be with us where ever we were. I put a few pics to show you the different set ups I used to keep her confined.

Wow, I had no idea that Buster needed this done as well. Poor baby. (and mommy) I am sure that he will do well with his surgery tomorrow. Will definitely send good thoughts and prayers. I know that you will be counting the minutes until you get that phone call. Trust me, you will feel the stress leaving your body once you hear from the surgeons office.

Please let us know who he does. Hot Rod was crated when I wasn't home and for the most part I held him when I was home. When he started to get frisky, I placed him on the table next to me on the sofa with his harness on and wrapped a neck lanyard around my wrist to keep him from jumping down. The first 2 weeks were rough for me and then it seem as though he turned the corner and was feeling a whole lot better.
BTW, he looks absolutely adorable in his costume. Great job on the costume.

I will be thinking of you and Buster during this time. I read every single post when it comes to LP because at one point in time it was possible Toby might need the surgery down the road. But I think we are out of the woods as he's 100% better than he was a month ago and back to his ornery self. He's only on 1/2 Rimadyl a day now and the ortho told me to start him on glucosamine & chondriton which he's been on for a month. No limping at all now! Please let us know how everything goes.
