| Emergency Hosital or Not??? Help! Trixie is 10 months old and vomited two or three times last night and had soft (but not loose or runny) stools. She hasn't eaten since early yesterday but did drink some water today. She is kinda moping around today, but gets excited when company comes. I was hoping she was on the mend since I haven't seen any vomit since this am, but she jiust drank some water and vomited it all back up. My vet's office is closed and the emergency hospital said to bring her in to be examined for dehydrationan and a foreign object. Should I bring her in??? What do you suggest. She is just sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor looking at me (and NOT barking at the pork chops grilling on the stove???)

| She can die from dehydration. You can try some canned pumpkin (not pie filling, just pumpkin), plain yogurt, pedialite with a syringe (in her mouth). I had this happen to my little girl when she was just a pound and a half. I babied her all night until my vet opened up in the morning. |

| It sounds to me like she needs to go in. I wouldn't take any chances. |

| Since she isn't holding down water very well and is lethargic, yes, she should be seen tonight.

| The emergency office said to bring her in, right? You wouldn't want to take an online forum answer over them. A 10 month old puppy who hasn't eaten in over 24 hours is at risk for low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in addition to the worry of dehydration. These little ones of ours can go very bad very quickly. You will feel much better having a professional look at her. Then maybe they can give her some fluids at the very least.

| When in doubt, go. You don't want to regret not going to the ER hospital.

| I am guessing you went to the vet. Please let us know how she is doing.

Small dogs can dehydrate very quickly. Lady had a spell of diarrhea a few years ago on a Saturday. I gave her Immodium and it stopped, but the next day she still wasn't eating or drinking water so I took her to the ER vet. She was so dehydrated that they told me she was in danger of cardiac arrest from electrolyte imbalance! She is eight pounds, too. | |

| Thank you all for your suggestions....almost as soon as I asked this question, I knew we were going to the ER - I don't know what even made me ask. Well we just got back and everything is fine with Trixie...they did blood tests, physical exam, xrays ... the whole gambit and thank god it seems as if she only has an upset tummy. Her temp was a little high, but the vet said it could be because she was nervous/stressed about being there. All her bloods came back normal.....she wasn't even dehydrated, which he was surprised about. He gave her some anti-nausea medicine at the hospital and gave me some to go home with along with pepcid and told me to keep an eye on her. He was talking about if after 24 hours she was still vomiting to give her more medicine.....I had to tell him that if she was still vomiting after another 24 hours that we would be back or at the vet long before that. I guess I just wanted confirmation from everyone here that going to the ER was the right thing to do, but I couldn't wait to have even one person respond. I have to say it was the best $657.62 I ever spent. I may actually get a little sleep tonight now that I know there isn't something seriously wrong with her. Thanks to all of you!!

Thanks....it was tough going back to the ER....the last time I was there was when my yorkie Biscuit passed away last November and we had spent so much time there in the weeks before. It was great to leave there with a healthy yorkie and good news. Trixie is easy to be a good mommy to - she gives more love than anyone I know!!
