My little piggie loves cottage cheese. She gets a little spoonful every evening with her dinner. Of course, mine is weird. She doesn't like it in the same plate. I have to put it in a different plate!

Forgot to mention one other thing... While she was in the car, she nawed on her raw-hide bone... If she had an infection in one of her teeth, would she still want to chew on it??
Also, as I sit here typing, she just went and got her cookie out of her dish and is chewing on it... She goes and stares at her bowls, since I have both of them filled with dry food, almost like she is deciding whether to take a chance and try it or not... Sometimes I wonder about this little thing...

My piglet loves yogurt!! Frozen more than regular, but she loves it... Cottage cheese not so much... Unless of course it is mixed with something else she likes...

Don't give your dog rawhide. It's a choking hazard. You should try bully sticks with her. They are full of protein and easily digestible. My two love them!
It sounds like she's doing a bit better. I would assume she wouldn't want to chew if she had a problem with her teeth, but I just don't know. My dog was limping for 2 weeks, but still wanted to run. These little ones can tolerate a lot of pain.

Mine is the opposite. She will eat yogurt, which is my preference. She's just not crazy about it. I might try frozen. I don't think I ever have tried it. She loves doggie ice cream though.

TJ was 13 and had Cushings disease, he was beginning to get sicker and doing odd things he had never done before. The vet said we could operate and remove the tumor and try all these different medications. I try to keep her busy but sometimes it's hard to keep her attention. Any suggestions what I might try to help her? I would love to get another puppy for her but the cottages we live in don't allow dogs unless your doctor says they are needed for your health. Belle is what keeps my depression from going to deep. Any help would be so appreciated, I can't bear the thought of leaving her alone.
Perhaps post this in the General Forum, or Yorkie Health, and maybe you will get some suggestions.

How about a big Plush Puppy Lab sized dog? What is she like out on walks with you? Maybe you can invite some friends with dogs in for a visit and a walk.

When we lived in So-Cal, we used to go to Golden Spoon, a frozen yogurt place. I always got her a small vanilla, peanut butter, or birthday flavor, after all, she is Daddy's little girl!!

Quick question... Her ears a still a bit red, and warm to the touch. Vet said to worry to much, but my Wife read that this could be very bad. No stinky ear or sepage. I think that they are like that because she does not feel good, but I could be wrong... She is a little more perky than she has been so...

I am so sorry to hear your little one is not feeling well.Hopefully this will pass real soon,

I am a Mom to 6 little fur babies along with 4 cats. All but 3 are rescues.
My Romeo is my poor allergy baby. Bless his heart, he has a time with allergies. He has been back and fourth to different vets to see what all this is about.

You get to know all your little babies so much, that when they start acting funny you pick up on that quick. All Romeo needs to do is start shaking his head, thats enough for me. I give him his benadryl.(sp). That is what the doctors said works for him. I agree. I give him 1 pill in a piece of cheese.

With in 1 hour he is feeling better. One day he started rubbing his face on everything, I gave him his benadryl, He did not stop . I took him to the doctor, he had a sore on his gum by his back tooth. After meds and a few days he was much better. It can get expensive, I know . I was wanting to get pet insurance for all 10 of mine, but decided to go on line and apply for the card, Care Credit. And I opened a savings account, just for the animals. I put money in to that account every time I get a few extra bucks. That way if something does come up , I do not have to worry, right then how I am going to come up with the money. Like a lot of people my husband gets payed at the beginning of the month.

As we all know for some reason these things happen, when your money is low. But what do you do? I have three different vets real close to me.They all know me real good. I have them in there for everything that is not normal.

As far as food, Just in case you were not aware, If you purchase food from Pet Smart, if your little one does not like it, you can return the can/package even if it is half empty. They will give you a full refund. If you do not have the receipt they give you a store credit.

I have the same problem with my group, picky eaters, What they like today they do not like in three days. So I am always trying different things, if they like it, Great if not , back it goes.

One last thing, about the ears hanging, My Jackie, If she does not feel well, Her ears hang. She was teething and she got stung by a bee, both times to the vet we go, ears hanging, the vet said that is just the way her little body works.Once she feels better up they go.

Good luck, and thanks for serving our country.

We don't have any frozen yogurt places here! Wish we did!

The ears - it's hard to say. Have you taken her temperature? She may be running a fever with allergies. That could be all it is. I suppose you could take a swab to see if there is a build-up of wax in her ears. Be very careful though. You really have to clean their ears well. I recall one person had a groomer come to her home on a regular basis. Her little one ended up with an ear infection. The groomer had not been cleaning her ears.

Hi Armyvet and let me first say welcome to YT and also THANK YOU for your service to our country.

A couple of initial comments here. I too whine and moan every time I have to hand over my AMEX card at the vet or drain my bank account. If you stick around YT for a while (and I hope you do!) you will find that many of us have very strong convictions about animal rights and responsible pet ownership. Our views are often unpopular, but we know they are correct. If we can change just one person's thinking or save one dog from misery and suffering, we will continue to do what we do in the face of unpopularity or being "unfriended" or even being called names. That is what comes with being an advocate and I'm sure you know this as the ultimate advocate for our freedom!

Although you initially complained about vet bills, your further posts made clear that you are one of us in your convictions. I wish there were more.

Owning a dog means more than loving it.

Now on to your dog and the allergies. I'm going to go with LadyJane on this one - stop the generic drug because I think your dog may be reacting to it. I can definitely relate to this happening - I have many allergies to drugs even dyes and colorings. For example, if I use eye shadow make up on my eyes that has a purple coloring to it, I will get a severe contact dermatitis aroudn my eyes to the point they wont open. Yet I can use the same brand of makeup in another color with no reaction. I later found out that some purple make up have nickels and other components in the coloring and I have a nickel allergy!

If your dog has allergies, you might want to consider doing as I did and seeing a Board Certified Dermatologist who are specialists in allergies. Our dog Daisy suffers from severe allergies amongst her many other medical problems. Benadryl never did anything for her. We tried a drug called Atopica and she has been on it for 5 years and it has been a real miracle for her. She is no longer miserable and although the cost of the drug runs me about $63/month plus shipping, she is now only on it seasonally and that is keeping her at bay. Your regular vet may be able to give you information on this but I am a firm believer in going to a specialist when you are dealing with a speciality issue and the skin is it's own organ system.

I wish you great luck and please keep us posted.

Thank you to everyone for all the great info...
As of lastnight, things took a slight turn for the worse. Bailey began with diarrhea, and it continued to early morning. 3 times total since around 9pm. As of 4am she has not had any reoccurrence. I gave her some antibiotics that she was given a few weeks ago for an intestinal issue, but fear that it upset her tummy. She has been vomiting every once in a while, but I forgot to give her food prior to giving the dose. She has since ignored all cookies, treats, and food we pass her way. I screwed up, and no one is to blame but myself!!
Ears... Somehow or another, her ears are both half perky. It is raning and chilly here in Portland, and she has been curled up on her blankey sleeping most of the morning. Except when she jumps down to hideand vomit...
We are going to keep an eye on her for the next few hours, and hopefully we can get her to eat some rice. If not, back to the Vet we will go...
Update later on her condition...

Why didn't you finish the antibiotics that were given to her in the past? You cannot stop an antibiotic part way through and expect the condition (whatever that was) to clear up with a partial treatment. What you will cause is a tolerance to antibiotics just like in humans. Please do not try to self medicate her by giving her drugs that were prescribed for a prior illness. All that you will accomplish is your poor pup will continue to be ill and the cycle of vet bills and office visits will continue. She needs to go back to the vet, you need to explain to the vet that she did not finish a prior antibiotic and that she is sick again.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope she is better soon. It's warm here and going to be hot in the upper 80's today.

And, besides all of that...I really doubt an antibiotic is needed for vomiting.

She needs to be seen and evaluated by a vet.

Hi. Just seeing this thread and could add a few things for your consideration:

What kind of bowl are you using for her food and water? If it is plastic of any kind, toss it and get stainless steel or ceramic. Plastics can leach out chemicals into the food and water that can cause contact dematitis on the face and can may some of the more sensitive little ones quite ill. It can be a progressive type thing so although it may not have bothered her in the past, this could now cause a problem. Also as the plastics age, they can break down more and become more of a threat.

Chicken is the #1 allergen in Yorkies. Maybe try a food based on a different protein source.

Also, many grocery store brands (and others) use harmful ingredients. Things to watch out for are:

Ethoxyquin is a common preservative found in many petfoods, and if not listed outright in the ingredients, may also be found in foods containing fish meal of any kind.

Even though the foods offered at Petsmart and Petco are generally more expensive, many require that a lesser amount is fed to supply the necessary nutrients required for a pup, thereby making them less expensive in the long run, and as most are made from better quality ingredients, they can keep your pup healthier resulting in less trips to the vets office.

Hope this helps... if I think of anything else... I'll be back!
