| ![]() He really needs to go back for a culture to figure out what the vet is dealing with. I would have to agree if you are not happy with the results of your current vet you need to move on and look for someone new. The poor little guy sounds like he is just miserable ![]() Just a thought~when was his last dental? When I had Truman as a foster his ears looked much the way you are describing and he also had a very bad respiratory infection too. It all started with a horrible infection in his mouth that had spread to his ear canal and lungs. It almost sounds like he might have several different things going on with him. The infections too a very long time to clear and once he had his dental it never returned.

![]() ![]() ![]() Oh my gosh, this poor baby. Please, go back to your vet or see a different one. With symptoms this severe, he really needs accurate clinical support, and quick! Honestly, my advice would be to see a Vet Dermatologist with the symptoms you're seeing here. There are several things that need to be ruled out before a diagnosis of enviro allergies can be assumed. Keep in mind that here in AZ, we deal with pollens ALL year 'round. So, if he is having pollen allergies - he really does need more support (Atopica, Temaril-P, steroids, and/or allergy testing). He should really have skin cultures etc to rule things out too, as I already mentioned. I see Vet Derms here in Phx - and they are just incredible! Yes, they are more expensive - but they will save you 10 trips to a regular vet who doesn't specialize in tough skin/allergy issues. Trust me, it's worth every penny! I go here, and they also serve Tucson...I can't recommend them highly enough: Dermatology for Animals

| ![]() We had a rescue with really bad skin allergires he was missing hair and would scratch constantly. We put him on a raw diet and within weeks we saw a remarkable improvement. But I do agree a animal derm would be your best bet. |

| ![]() No, it's not cruel to put an e-collar on a dog to prevent them scratching themselves when they are causing more injury to themselves. I had to do that with one of mine, she tore her ears up so bad, they were bleeding and scabby and twice as thick as they should have been when I first brought her home. I was afraid she would hit a vein and bleed to death when I was out one day. My Yorkie had Sarcoptic mites, ear mites, and skin wounds from all the scratching. She was also not liking me messing with her ears, so the vet prescribed Revolution to get all the mites under control, and an antibiotic creme to apply to her ear flaps. She was itchy mainly on her ears, eyes and front feet. When the scabs on her ears cleared up, I was able to remove the e-collar, as they caused itching also.

| ![]() Sounds like environmental allergies to me. He sounds a lot like my little guy (do a search on my screenname and you'll find all my posts about Alex and his severe allergies). I would get to a canine allergist immediately. He needs to get allergy tested and on allergy shots (assuming these are not food allergies). Also make sure to get him on a completely grain-free diet in the interim, as that might provide some relief.
