| So sorry to hear what Maggie's going through, and sending prayers for her. I'm not sure, but could she possibly be experiencing a tick-borne illness? Since it's so acute, I thought it might be worth a thought. Here's some links: www.mirage-samoyeds.com/tick.htm http://www.vetinfo.com/tick-borne-diseases.html

| I can only think that she's been bitten by something. The fact that her spleen is swollen, means that it's doing its job. It is filtering and seriously waging war against whatever is attacking her system. My daughter (yeah, she's not a dog but she has an immune system..;0) had a bad internal infection one time that went septic. Nearly died, involved tube feeding for several weeks, yada yada yada. Point is her spleen worked so hard to clear her system of the infection and got so swollen and lumpy that they thought it was going to have to be removed. It was full of blood clots from filtering. She survived, spleen survived. She loves her spleen, wants a pool put in that is spleen shaped instead of kidney shaped. Think good thoughts and thank god that her spleen is working so hard to fight for her and pray that it can hold out and continue. We'll be doing the same.

| Sorry your baby is ill. I have never experienced something similar, so I can't help much. But will have positive thoughts that Maggie will be all right and healthy very soon! |

| That poor baby...and poor you! I have no advice or answers, but I will pray for her...that she recovers quickly from whatever this is. I hope it can be easily diagnosed and treated. Hugs to you.

She's being pretty manic right now, which is the complete opposite of how she's been. Not to sure if she just can't get comfortable or what.. but it's freaking me out.

| I too think it looks like a bite. Maybe a brown spider. They cause tissue decay like that picture shows. I've seen a brown spider bite on horses and people, but never a dog. Regardless, I hope you get some answers today and your baby gets better. I just feel so sorry for her, and you need some rest.

| Ok, everyone - Update time! That behavior scared me too, Nana! Luckily, we did get an appointment this morning. After an evaluation by the internal medicine team at OSU and a dermatology evaluation they think they have it figured out. The lump under her chin/neck is a pretty bad infection that spread through her body. Not sure what it could have been provoked by, but she chews on her license (yes, the metal one. It's HUGE this year and far too large for Yorkies) and I think maybe the metal got a little jagged and bothered her. The antibiotics are helping and now she has some topical wipes to clean the bacteria out. She should be feeling better in a couple days. $800 later...but, how could we risk it? She was breaking our hearts with how miserable she was feeling. Thanks for all the kind words

| I can see how some of those tags can be so big for these little ones. The one we got this year is in the shape of a house with pointed edges for the roof. I can see how that could poke into their skin so I have not put it on, now I am glad I didn't. I am glad she is on the mend, poor baby.

Those damn tags.. I figure if they have their little tags on with your contact information whadda they gonna do, jail Maggie for walking without a license? Most ordinances say you have to purchase the license, I'm not sure about wearing the thing, if they want all dogs to wear it, then they should make them smaller. Someone in city hall picks them out randomly, I know. Because one year I just happened to pick out the city lake boat tags/stickers and dog tags. I picked cute little dog tags that year and made all the fisherman buy hot pink boat stickers. Every city has a catalog and in the middle of the year they purchase whatever random color, size, shape they want for the following year...let city hall know your complaint!!!! Squeaky wheel gets the grease....mine chew their tags too, if they can get them to their mouths.... Once again...yeah for Maggie and kudos to her spleen!!!!

| Could the metal/paint in the tag have been toxic? Entered through break in the skin??
