Not necessarily. It's one thing to rule out, but you need to look further for things like IBD. If you read the OP's description, he has had previous episodes of this that would rule out a foreign body. Good overview on IBD, including history and tests. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in Dogs

And if the vomiting and blood is from Pancreatitis, it is best just to watch TV and read a good book, as doing nothing is the best form of medicine. I am glad you were not a Corpsman in Nam! | |

| ![]() yes the inflammation can be cause by something he ate; however even if the bleeding stops the inflammation is not going anywhere; and any little thing (even stress) can trigger another flare up. so please he needs to be seen by a vet asap.

| ![]() from val's last post (seperate post); the vet did an xray and there was no obstruction. also the dog was eating, drinking and pooping fine within the past few days. anyway we can't sit her and guess; she will find out when she brings her dog to the vet for further examination. by the way it's almost impossible for the intestine to get inflammation, bleed and then heal on their own. trust me i suffered 2.5 years with my dog; and no one knew how to diagnose her until this year; nothing brought down the inflammation except prednisone. so i am speaking from my experience. best of luck val.

| ![]() From the blood tests during the first episode they don't think it's pancreatitis. Thank you for the good wishes. |

| ![]() The vet called this morning to check on Pippin. He doesn't want to make any changes right now until we get this under control. Then he wants to do an x-ray to rule out a foreign object. If that is negative to send him to a specialist in San Francisco. I'm thinking of asking him when he's better to just refer me to the specialist. I know it would rule out one more thing, but I think if it was a foreign object there wouldn't be 3 months between of no problems. I mentioned to him predisone, and he said he had been thinking about that but he doesn't want to do anything else right now. I told him about the hornet last night, and that I think Pip ate one a week or two ago, and he said that could have triggered this. He said stress also could have caused it. My daughter had brought over her dog a week ago and he kept taking Pippin's toys away from him, and Pippin is such a sissy he wouldn't go over and try and get it back. He just would go to my daughter and cry for her to go get it. The trowing up started that night. I just don't want to see him go through this again. Every time it has been more intense and lasted longer. |

| ![]() He is doing fantastic. He is so bright eyed, and acting like a puppy. I think the diet plus the meds is making him feel so much better. I've noticed he doesn't have much goop in his eyes in the morning now. I know we still have to get to the bottom of what is wrong with him, but just to see him feeling good again is a relief. Thanks for everyone's advice and good wishes. |
