I lost her 2 years ago and sometimes it feels like yesterday. I found myself in tears the other day thinking of her. You are right. They are our kids!

My precious Becca passed away very suddenly 2 years ago when she was eleven. I still mourn her every single day, and I'm tearing up thinking about her now. These little ones hold such special places in our earthly lives that I'm convinced they'll be waiting for us when it's time for us to join them at the bridge. Thank you for your posts here, your words really touched me. RIP sweet Nikki and Becca. Hugs, Bonny

| ![]() The new bedrail arrived last night. It's going to take some assembly, so I'll put it together this afternoon. Fingers crossed that it's what we need. I've hesitated to post this update on Alexander because I don't want to jump the gun. The doctor - and other members here who've tried Anipryl - warned me that it would take at least 30 days before I started seeing signs of improvement (if there were going to be any). Alexander has only been on it for 3 weeks as of tomorrow. But, I definitely see changes in him already that must be from the Anipryl. Before he would be walking along, stop, and act like he'd forgotten where he was or where he was going. He would even do that on the ramps and then walk right off the side of them. I can't remember the last time I saw him have an episode like this. He's much more focused and aware and alert - I can actually see that in his eyes. He's also not walked up to a wall and just stood there looking at it. He's only had one incidence this week of getting stuck in a corner and even then he made it out more quickly than before. He still paces around the house, but he doesn't have that lost look on his face. So I'm not sure if that will improve, or if he's doing it for some reason other than the dementia. He's more active and more involved with the other pups. He has a lot more interest in what's going on around him. Best of all, he's now letting me hug and cuddle with him all I want. I can stroke his face again, carry him all around with me, etc. and he stays calm through it all - he loves it just as much as I do. ![]() And, he has not walked off the bed again since the last time I posted about him doing that. ![]() ![]() I don't think all of these changes could be coincidence, so I'm praying the Anipryl really has kicked in for him. I thank God every day for Alexander, and for all of you who offered the great suggestions and who've been praying for Alex. Bless you all. ![]()

| ![]() Hey Bonny! I've not been around for awhile and just catching this thread now. Gosh, it broke my heart to read about your sweet boy. I KNOW that feeling. I have it for my Ivan. Although I love ALL my dogs, Ivan was my first male and my first Biewer. He just has a special place with me. I'm so glad to hear that Alexander is showing some improvement.!

| ![]() This just brought tears of joy to my eyes. I hoped and believed with all my heart that the Anipryl would help him, and I think you have a bit of an idea how happy this makes me. I know that each day that you and Alexander share with each other is truly precious to both of you. To hear that you both are doing better really warmed my heart. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful news with us. Last edited by lisaly; 10-08-2010 at 03:36 PM. |

| ![]() Its so hard anytime we have a furbaby with any illness, disease, or ailment. No one knows what we go through at the time. Hours of no sleep, worry, gut wrenching agony what to do. I wanted to give you hugs to the two of you. Though you dont know me, wanted to emotionally support you here. You are a wonderful furmommy to Alexander. I am sure what he's given you is more than any of us will know. All our babies are precious to us but they give us so much more. We learn from them compassion, patients, endless unconditional love. I think their greatest gift to us is what we learn in caring for them and educate others, sharing it here in YT about their diseases, illness, trauma, and behavior problems and to teach. With that is the comfort we provide them in terms of love, toys, etc. So we can spoil them. Just like our human population getting older we find diseases now unheard of 20 years ago because of the life expectancy is getting longer. So it reflects on our furbabies too, they are growing older, living longer with all about the same illness our human elderly counterparts are encountering. I never stopped to think of Canine dementia of being an issue, but I never thought Dad would end up with Alzheimers either. What a similarity in symptoms. I cried though the entire thread, ashamed to say passed it by when it started I knew what it was about, but it was so close to home for me. Please accept my apology for not posting sooner to say I am here for you too! We all grieve during this process remember that, it likes to sneak up on you. But if your aware of it you can work through it during this difficult time. Its the loss of what we had with our furbaby, what we are going through at this time in the present, and what we know will eventually come. But I know you will continue to give Alexander all that you can and more each day making it an awesome day for him to live out his remaining time with you. Bless you both and give you time. Anne |
