| Need Advice Okay.... before I start... I already feel bad so please don't bash me. I gave Max a bath this evening and decided to trim the hair around his face and ended up cutting him. It's a small spot about the size of an eraser on a pencil. It bled very briefly and stopped. I cleaned the wound with peroxide and dabbed a bit of neosporin on it. Is there anything else that I need to do? I am so upset that I'm about to cry. |

| Don't feel too bad. Sometimes things happen. You did the right thing by cleaning it and applying the ointment. Just keep an eye on it and make sure your little one doesn't scratch it and start bleeding again.

| Thank you! I do feel bad though. He never whimpered or yelped at all so I didn't know I had cut him until I saw a little bit of blood. He is playing and running around like nothing happened so I guess I'll just keep an eye on it to make sure that it doesn't get infected. Thanks for the reassurance!! |

| I did this too,, not long ago,, I know the guilt, I say keep it clean and as dry as you can, Im not a huge fan of neosporin on an open cut because its not water soluable and if bacteria is in the cut i cant get out but thats just my opinion I like it much more once a scab is over it because it does help with scars, but im a people DR not a vet, I cut my guy right under his eye, he was totally fine he only made a small noise but it did bleed like crazy, I think I was more upset than he was. keep it clean and keep an eye on it if it feels warm or looks infected seek vet help but I doubt it will if you keep it clean. |

| Thank you for the advice. And yes I do feel guilty. This reminds me of the time that my son was 3 or 4 months old and I trimmed his fingernails and cut his finger. I just about cried then too. I know that these things happen. I do take him to the groomers about every 6 weeks or so but last time I had them give him a really short cut for the summer but she left the hair on his head longer then I really wanted. I had hoped that I could just trim it a bit and not have to take him back to the groomer for just his head. Believe me when I say that next time I'll just take him to the groomers and pay the $40 regardless!! Stacey |

| I know how you feel. when Hot Rod was a puppy, I was trimming his ears to help them in standing up and I knicked his ear. He let out a little wimper but was okay. There was blood and I was freaking out. He was fine but I was a mess. To this day you can see where the little nick is. Talk about feeling guilty.

| I take my 2 every 5 or 6 weeks also, I learned let the pro do it, I thought I could save myself 60 dollars plus a 20 dollar tip per dog same thing his body was fine since he was shorter for summer but his face looked like he was homeless. I still think 60 dollars each for a haircut is high for a dog hairdo but it beats hurting him. |

| Let's talk about guilt. I cut my little boy's ear once when I was trimming his hair! He never let me cut his hair again. I learned never to try that again with him ~ or with the dogs.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Try not to feel so bad. I think a lot of us are guilty of accidentally cutting/nicking our dogs when home grooming. I scissored morgans ear when i was tipping them when she was younger. bled a lot but didn't seem to bother her much. I also nicked her front leg the very first time i tried to give her a hair cut with my brand new clipper and blade set. this was before i decided to go to school to become a professional groomer (morgan thanks me for this LOL). Accidents happen and usually its more upseting to us then it is to the dog. i stopped the bleeding, cleaned it up, and put bacitracin on it. also made sure morgan couldn't lick the bacitracin off.

| It happens. Make sure he can't lick the Neosporin. Because I really don't know how to groom, but decide to do Ellie anyway and I hate the thought of cutting her, I use my fingers to protect her. I just put my index and middle finger of my left hand on her and pull the hair up through them. If anything gets cut, it will be my fingers. Not the most pleasant, but at least it keeps her happy.

| I groom all of mine myself, because I have 6 it would cost me a fortune!!! Anyway, if you do try and trim his bangs again, use this trick. You hold their hair on the bottom of their chin with one hand so you can hold their head steady and have them look at you then I use the scissors with the other hand when I know that they are looking right at me and I have them steady. When you first start this they may take awhile to get used to you holding their head but it does give me control and now since mine are used to the routine I am barely holding their chin and they look right at me. Plus I give treats when they stay still!!

| I am guilty of accidentally nicking or shaving too close and giving them a strip of razor burn. I always feel terrible and they just look at me like, "um it's ok mom, what's going on?" lol
