Licking, Smacking Lips? Don't Know What He's Doing

I remember you saying that before about the peanut butter... but didn't that one article say to give actual peanut butter, as it melts as they swallow.. or something like that. I did read also after that, that nuts are high on the list for allergens. Sorry I didn't catch that. Boy that would be sweet! You need an easy fix after all you've been through lately!

No more peanut butter and we'll see what happens. He was awful last night. It always just seems like an annoyance to him but then he's fine. It definitely doesn't require medical attention other than me playing sleuth.

My dog has been using Leba III for over 3 years. My vet recommended that because she will NOT let me brush her teeth, the and dentawhatever at Petsmart did nothing for her.

I had to have her teeth cleaned 1 time. I will never do that to her again - she was sooo sick when I picked her up after the anesthesia and did not want to get in the car with me for weeks. I guess she was afraid she was going back to the vet.

Anyway, we use leba 2 times per day and her teeth have absolutely no tartar. They are sparkling clean.

But.... everyone's baby is different and reactions can be different so I am glad you are going to quit using it.

My Cooper's issue was/is not the Leba III. At this point I'm convinced that's it's just seasonal allergies, runny nose - he's been taking Zyrtec at night and it seems to be helping quite a bit. It's not a food allergy either.

I'm almost debating putting him back on the Leba III.

I didn't read all the posts in this thread, but noticed that you (the OP) stated something about peanut butter being the possible cause of your dog's lip licking/smacking. I wanted to just point out that I gave Zoey peanut butter for the 1st time about 2 weeks ago and she's been licking her lips - sticking out her tongue A LOT ever since - it's gotten better and she's doing it less now, but was doing it quite a bit right after giving her peanut butter and for a week or more! I took her to the Vet and mentioned it earlier this week and the Vet said it's usually a sign of dehydration - but Zoey drinks and keeps very hydrated, so she said it could just be behavioral and/or a habit she is picking up. However after reading some of the post on this thread I'm thinking it could be the peanut butter for sure, since nothing else has changed with Zoey since that time that I can think of..

Interesting. With Cooper this has been going on for months and months. He hasn't had peanut butter, but still licks his lips sometimes at night. The Zyrtec works a little I suppose. I doubt he's dehydrated. The lick lipping stops immediately when he gets out of bed, which leads me to believe maybe it's something in the bedroom. Or, I know that with me, allergies are worse at night when I'm laying down.

It certainly is still a mystery. My vet also said behavioral but I definitely doubt that. I'm not terribly worried about it as he's really healthy.

Interesting. It seems like it could be environmental vs. behavioral. Do you get dry - cough in the morning or anything? Maybe your dog need something as simple as a humidifier in your bedroom? I know I do and it helps me, especially if I have on the AC all day. I still think with Zoey it was the peanut butter, but who knows maybe my house was "dry" since I haven't been using the humidifier and last week here in Boston was very hot and I was using the AC a lot....
