| This is how it looks this morning. I put some pet antiseptic on it and it looks better to me. I also ran my finger in her mouth and pushed and stuff and it doesn't seem to be bothering her at all. Wouldn't it be sensitive if it was an absess? She doesn't flinch at all when I put the cotton ball with the antiseptic on it. It kind of looks like it's drying up. What do you think?

| It is would not be the part of the tooth that you could see but the root of the tooth. Dogs do not have dental issues the same you people. Regardless, you need to take her to the vet to be put on a proper ORAL antibiotic for the infection. If they think (as most of are are guessing) that there is a dental issue then you can go from there. When was the last time she had a dental?

and yes jodi is correct it is the Root so you will not see it sometimes in the gums as it comes out in a sore under the eye If there is one infected root their can be others - if this was after a dental and tooth removal then I would go to a bc dentist This is why when dentals are done digital xrays are critical as they can see if roots are infected so this does not happen Last edited by dwerten; 06-22-2010 at 06:44 AM. | |

| Ok I'm back. She does indeed have an abcess. She had bloodwork and he gave her a shot of antibiotic, her temperature was fine. I have to bring her in tomorrow morning at 7:30 to have surgery. He will do x-rays first then fix it up. I am shaking right now. She is my little Pebby. I feel terrible that I didn't notice it sooner. I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for all your great advice. I probably would have just left it alone because it look better today. You guys are the best Please say a prayer for her I am a wreck right now. I will let you know how she is when she comes home. He is going to clean all of her teeth while she is under also.

| No, those teeth I had removed were front baby teeth. This vet didn't even do that surgery. This guy is on the radio answering questions on Sunday mornings. He is closer to my house and I've been taking my babies there for about a year now. I feel confident he will do everything he can to fix her up.

| Glad its getting fixed! Please don't feel bad... looking back we realized after that Armani had the abscess for like 2 months before we found out. It can be very difficult to notice anything wrong and then boom! one day it just opens up on the outside and you are shocked. It also took my (previous!) vet awhile to figure out what the wound was, which really made me MAD. They will usually clean it out from the inside when they are in there, so she will come home looking 1000 times better, then it heals up pretty quickly. They recommend canned food for two weeks after usually, so you may want to be prepared and get some before she gets home. I will be thinking about her, good luck tomorrow!

| Awww, poor baby. Don't worry I'm sure your Pebby will be just fine. Also you can put a clead warm wet cloth on it a couple of times a day. Hot packs will bring the antibiotic to the area faster. |

| Yah, I am so happy you took her in! Good job. She will start feeling better tonight on the antibiotic (sadly, I have had this same thing myself and it was PAINFUL).

| Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so glad you took her in and she will get fixed up. If I remember correctly when my Zorro had it happen, the vet removed the same tooth on the other side as a precaution. But that was 25 years ago and I can't remember for sure. I know Zorro healed quickly once the tooth was out and the antibiotics started working. I will keep Pebbles in my prayers.

| I'll be praying for Pebbles to have an easy procedure today. Hugs to you both.

| I just dropped her off. So sad Nothing like the feeling like leaving your baby at the vet and driving away!! I have to call after 12 to see how she did. Her face looks great today but that is because it is now draining on the inside. So I am so glad I brought her in. I will keep you posted
