Daisy's in the hospital!!! I'm Heartbroken As you know Daisy was diagnosed with lyme disease about 2 weeks ago and they put her on doxycycline. Well thursday Daisy threw up her food and I called the vet and she said to give her pepcid ac about 30 min before her meal and then about another 30 min give her the meds. she threw up this morning and yesterday she was acting depressed so I made an appointment. When they examined her her abdomen was warm to the touch And very sore. She whimpered when they touched it. She was a little dehydrated from the vomiting. They admitted her and said that they thought it was pancreatitis. they were going to call me with some test results. They also took xrays. I called them bc I could not wait I was a wreck. They said that in t6he xrays everything looked good They ruled out pancreatitis. But....:( it might be liver disease or possibly liver cancer her ALT--1800 ALP-- 1900 GGT---68 They asked me if she could of gotten into anything and I said no. They asked me if we had any mushrooms in the yard and I said yes before they mowed the lawn due to all the rain. The only day that she could of eaten any would of been Monday bc that was the last day we played in the yard and I really don't think she did eat any. They want to do an ultra sound with a specialist on monday. wouldn't an xray show a tumor? I am so heart broken, Pixie misses her terribly. when I gave Daisy a kiss on the nose she looked up at me and whimpered it just broke my heart. I cried all the way home from the vet and I have been crying all day. I am getting a migraine from crying so much. I also read that doxycycline can cause liver damage:eek: Please pray that it is NOT Liver cancer!!!!! omg!!! I can't lose my Daisy Doo |
Oh my!...I hope your Daisy is going to be alright......If it's from the med's could they be causing a temporary rise in the numbers? .....I sure hope so!...... I will be hoping for some encouraging news from the vet that it's just something throwing off the numbers...... |
Oh geez I feel your pain. Sending prayers that Daisy is well soon. |
Prayers for Daisy. |
Praying for you and Daisy... |
I am wondering if it is possible the Lyme has caused these elevated test results. I would ask the vet that question. Try not to think the worst. I know it is hard, but sometimes the things we fear the most just do not happen. It is hard enough for you now with her being sick without fearing cancer. :( |
Sending prayers for you and Daisy and a good outcome.:) |
oh man, this sucks :( Poor baby! I will keep you guys in my thoughts and please, do keep us updated. Hugs for Daisy, i hope she makes a full recovery soon. |
I'm so sorry Daisy's sick. I'm sending prayers and hugs for all of you. Please don't worry yourself sick (hard to do, I know). Daisy will need you strong for her. Ask the vet if the Lyme's treatment could have caused those test results. Hugs, Bonny |
I am so sorry that Daisy and you are going through this. I am praying for good results and that those numbers are just from the meds. Please try to stay positive and I know that's hard. It is just human nature to assume the worst. Praying for Daisy. |
That sucks. I hope they can narrow down what it is and treat her to get her back to 100%. The Ultrasound should show what is going on in there. |
Prayers for Daisy. And prayers for you too!! That you are able to stay strong through her diagnosis and eventual treatment for what ever she has going on. Will also keep good thoughts that this is not as serious as it sounds. Take care.... |
I am so sorry that your precious Daisy is sick! Please keep us posted on how she is doing and what you find out. |
Saying a prayer for Daisy; I hope you find out what is going on. |
I am so sorry to hear Daisy isn't doing well, I hope she well be okay. I will be keeping her in my prayers, Please keep us posted, hugs to you. |
Gentle hugs for Daisy & I will keep both of you in my thoughts for only a positive outcome...Daisy coming home to you healthy & happy ASAP! ;) |
Keeping Daisy in our prayers. I'm glad the specialist is doing the u/s. In addition to Lyme possibly causing this, there are any # of things that could cause these elevations including bacterial infections as these enzymes are very sensitive. I hope she is comfy over the weekend and that we learn more from you soon about how she is doing. THe xray would rule out a mass but not necessarily other things that an u/s can detect. Keep us posted. Hugs, Cathy |
Praying Daisy will start to feel better and her numbers go back to normal. I know when they are sick it's impossible not to worry. |
I just talked to the vet and she said that when she did the xray of Daisy's liver it was not swollen. She also said that they had her on plenty of fluids and she was alert and has not thrown up again and seemed like she was doing a little better. She said that they are treating her as if she did get into something, I guess Daisy's glucose was fine no fever. Tomorrow they are going to offer her food and if she keeps it down they are going to do her lvls again. If her lvls drop some than they are thinking that Maybe it could be a RARE side effect from the medication. If her lvls don't drop than we have to go ahead with a specialist doing an ultra sound. Please pray for a miracle for Daisy and that her lvls drop some tom. I am calling around 8:00 am. Pixie and I are missing her so much, I also asked the vet that if she did by chance eat a mushroom in the yard wouldn't she show signs of it before thurs, Bc the only day she could of ate something in the yard was monday. The vet said that not all mushrooms are toxic in the yard and if she did eat a toxic one it could take anywhere from 24-72 hrs. I am banging my head against the wall and I can't figure it out. I really have a gut feeling it is her doxycycline I don't know why. I hope that is it. Please being praying for her. |
Bless her heart! I will keep Daisy in my prayers. I know the waiting is hard. Just keep your faith and trust that all will be OK. |
You are both in my thoughts. Do not go beating yourself up. I am hoping and betting she will be better tomorrow. Sometimes, they just get sick. |
I'm so sorry your both going thru such a bad time right now. Prayers are going out to you both. Hopefully she will be home soon and back to her little self! |

1 Attachment(s) I am missing her so much right now. I hope it is something that they can do something about. I miss how when I always go get a glass of ice water and set it down she sticks her face in there and nearly drinks half the glass, it's as if she says thanks for the water. It doesn't matter if I had just finished filling her bowl with cold water she still loves to steal moms water. I miss this sweet face:( we took this picture yesterday after the groomers. I found it strange that at the groomers she was acting nervous and she loves the groomers. I feel awful that I didn't know, and put her through a haircut:( She does look so cute though:) |
My thoughts and prayers are with you both :rose: Im so sorry she is so sick :( |
Prayers for you and Pixie (and Daisy, too). |
Daisy is positively adorable! What a beautiful face. I'm praying for you both. You have been through more than one should in a lifetime this week. I wish you continued strength and I hope you can bring your sweety home tomorrow. |

Tylosin Did you get a hold of a pharmacist yet and ask about doseage and ask about side effects and if it affects the liver enzymes that antibiotic? ETA- were you giving mid meal? |
Bless your heart. When it rains it pours. I will be praying for Daisy and you too. |
Doxycycline (Vibramycin®) that antibiotic is used off label as not fda approved in dogs. It also affects proteins so could very well be the cause of the liver issue going on if given too high of a dose |
