no mine has been good for 4 years on a low fat low protein diet of purina ha thank goodness but it was a horrible year and cost me 10k to get him balanced This is why I try to help others on here as i know what it is like to have a dog that is sick and it is no fun

Turns out his was inflammatory bowel disease in small intestines which triggered the pancreas anytime he eats a diet with white potato it sets him off so we finally figured it out and now he is doing great and 6 years old

That is good to hear that he is doing so well. Where do you his dog food from? Is it just called Purina? I really appreciate all of the help everyone has given me. I just took Louis out to go potty and he still has diarrhea. He will drink water ONLY when I drip it from my finger, not his bowl. He still hasn't eaten anything. I wish the vet could get him in sooner. I hate seeing him like this.

Is your vet going to see him today? Not sure what you mean by sooner....but I would definitely push for today!

I think if he is feeling this way maybe take him in and wait for first available squeeze in as that is what I would do just sit and wait and this way they can do some blood work and see what is going on. If you can take a stool sample in that would be good too- just pick up sample and put in baggie put in fridge until you leave for vet. Also ask vet if they have snap cpli test in house so you can get pancreas results quickly as otherwise labs take a little while to come back on cpli longer than other blood testing for some reason at least that has always been the case when they were done for dex. Maybe they are quicker now though.

I am glad you are taking him in always better to be safe

I get his food from vet purina ha but first you need to see what is going on as could be high fat content in hot dog but usually it happens right away not 3 days later. yorks can have high fat content in blood naturally (high triglycerides) thus leaving them open to pancreatitis. My dex has high triglycerides on 12 hr fasting blood work so this is why we feel also he is prone to pancreatitis. I caution anyone whose york has this to have their dog on low fat diet and no fatty acid supplements.

Purina ha is 8% fat but first you need to know what is going on so let us know and we can further help you

You are very knowledgable. I will ask about the snap cpli. I really don't think it was the hot dog either. I think it is already out of his system. Thanks again for everything.

Yes, it can take days...
Hoping it's just a little stomach upset.

3 days after probably not hot dog as usually it is within a 12 -24 hr time period for it to trigger but anything is possible.

Best to restrict food for 12 hrs if you think pancreatitis. Also hold up water until vomitting stops then slowly give them some and do not let them gulp the water as gulping will make them vomit it up. I usually will give little bits at a time with my finger but only after all vomitting has stopped. You have to stop the vomitting cycle to let the tummy rest.

Symptoms Common symptoms of the acute form of pancreatitis in dogs include a very painful abdomen, abdominal distention, lack of appetite, depression, dehydration, a 'hunched up' posture, vomiting, diarrhea and yellow, greasy stool. Fever often accompanies these symptoms. Animals with more severe disease can develop heart arrhythmias, sepsis (body-wide infection), difficulty breathing, and a life-threatening condition called disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), which results in multiple hemorrhages. If the inflammation is severe, organs surrounding the pancreas could be 'autodigested' by pancreatic enzymes released from the damaged pancreas and become permanently damaged.
First they vomit food, then bile then white foam. What is he vomitting up now?
Hope this helps

Well we are back from the vet. The vet said he has been seeing a lot of diarrhea and vomiting this past week. He said he was going to treat Louis as though he has pancreatitis. He gave him a shot of penicillin and Metoclopramide (for vomiting I think) and Pro-Pectalin for diarrhea. He said to give Louis 1 tbs of boiled chicken and rice later on tonight. He told me that if Louis doesn't show any improvement by tomorrow morning to bring him in to have blood work done. (He told me to call either way to let him know how Louis is doing, which I thought was nice.) The last time I weighed Louis he was 6lbs, 8ozs. Today he only weighed 5lbs. 8ozs. Poor guy. I can't believe he lost one pound! As soon as we got home Louis ran to his water bowl and got a drink. Another good thing! Thanks again for everyones advice and encouraging words!
