Louis is sick, I am scared that it's pancreatitis

Well we are back from the vet. The vet said he has been seeing a lot of diarrhea and vomiting this past week. He said he was going to treat Louis as though he has pancreatitis. He gave him a shot of penicillin and Metoclopramide (for vomiting I think) and Pro-Pectalin for diarrhea. He said to give Louis 1 tbs of boiled chicken and rice later on tonight. He told me that if Louis doesn't show any improvement by tomorrow morning to bring him in to have blood work done. (He told me to call either way to let him know how Louis is doing, which I thought was nice.) The last time I weighed Louis he was 6lbs, 8ozs. Today he only weighed 5lbs. 8ozs. Poor guy. I can't believe he lost one pound! As soon as we got home Louis ran to his water bowl and got a drink. Another good thing! Thanks again for everyones advice and encouraging words!

Louis has lost a pound -- oh no! I'm glad he wanted to drink his water. Hope he recovers quickly.

Did the vet indicate the reason for so many patients with diarrhea and vomiting?

glad you took him in - did they weigh him on the big scale they walk on or the baby scale as sometimes the big scale can be off

Thank you for the update! So happy to hear this....hopefully those meds will help Louis's tummy settle. That is great that he is drinking water!

So glad you took him in. I always think it's better to be safe than sorry with these little ones. Waiting usually ends up with a sicker dog and a bigger vet bill.

The only thing the vet said about that was it was viral.

hmmm this is the time of year for vaccinations and viral can be from vaccinations. Did Louis just get a vaccination recently?

Oh, he didn't say that Louis' was viral. He said that could be the reason for the other dogs. Louis got his shots almost 6 months ago. He was treating Louis like he has pancreatitis.

ok good as my parents dog got a viral infection from bordatella vaccine so just wanted to be sure Their dog was vomitting blood and bloody diarrhea

Well I gave Louis his first dose of medicine at 3:00 and he hasn't thrown up or had diarrhea since. He ate chicken and rice for dinner, and drank some water. He is acting almost like himself again. Thanks again to eveyone!

Oh poor thing. They are so pitiful when they are sick. Especialy because they can't tell you want is wrong.

I am so glad to hear Louis is starting to feel better. I have found with mine that they start feeling better after the first dose too.
