Cry Roxy is sick, either Pancreatitis or Disc Issue

Please keep Roxy in your prayers...

She has been acting very, very docile and just 'off' the last couple of days. She is normally a high stress anxiety energizer bunny. We weren't sure if her LP or back was bothering her. This morning she was screaming when I came too close to her on the bed. She had diarrhea last night and slimy mucus poop this morning.

Took her to the Vet, explained everything and he could see she was 'guarded' and her stomach was tight. They took an x-ray. He showed me how her stomach and intestine lining was very thick and she had lots of gas. So he said possible Pancreatitis. Then he showed me one disc in her back that the space is close. No stones in her bladder, liver looks a little small (he said) and her knees are good, just a little arthritis, but that is expected.

She is eating ok, which is good. But I have noticed that she isn't peeing like she normally does, that's why I thought maybe a stone.

So we did a full CBC blood work panel and will get results tomorrow. She is on Metro 2x a day, until we get the blood work back, and then he will tell me more....If she doesn't get better with this, then we have to move over to possible spine/back issues...

I am sad, bc she has lost her glow

Nooooooooooooooooooooo.

PM if you need to talk.

Could be pancreas, esp. if sore over that area, but this is not what you would normally see.

I know, from what I have read from you and others here, I thought the symptoms would be worse.

Something just isn't right with her. She used to roll over for belly rubs, she used to roll all over the carpet in the AM, she used to pee (mark) any time a fresh pad was put down. IDK...she is slow now too. She spins to the right and now when she does her spins, she is slow and kinda gets stuck

I have no idea what is going on, but she isn't right

If your vet did a Spec cPL, you will know by tomorrow (ish) if it is pancreatitis. The symptoms do sound very odd.

Is she peeing less but drinking the same amount?
Did she get any new food or treats?
Pancreatitis can be extremely painful and some dogs have it chronically and the owner doesn't even know. But with symptoms, usually vomiting is present... Poor girl.

IDK - they did a full complete blood panel (not a BAT though).

She is peeing less and drink is the same, but she gets alot of water from her food too.

Tues and Weds AM she was shivering. It was rainy here, so I am not sure it she was in pain or cold.

TJ threw up bile yesterday AM, and when I came home from work, there was a pile, I think it was vomit, bc it looked like pureed food, and bile/water had separated from it. I assumed it was TJ since he was the one throwing up, but it could have been Roxy. She has diareaha last night and again this morning.

Last night, I went to grill on the patio, and they both line up at the door. Roxy usually goes nuts, barking and attacking TJ. I was suprised that she attempted to attack him, and when he turned to her to fight/bark back, she started screaming and backing into the corner, so she is 'guarding' herself. This morning I tried it again, but she kept her distance and kept quiet.

She also has NO problem eating

I hope they find out the problem and get it resolved, and she gets her glow back. Our Yorkie had 2 bouts of Pancreatitis and it is scary how it hits them. If it was that, she should be at the vet getting IV's and meds. They start pooping blood and constant bile vomiting. Both times ours got it, my wife was out of town and I just got her to the vet fast. Since we had her on Iams Low Residue, she has been great for over 5 years. You also have to consider the back issue.

I do not think this is pancreas related as dex NEVER screamed in pain and he was very bad

Does your vet not have the inhouse spec cpli as that is run immediately for results as lab can take a few days on spec cpli

I am sorry but i am concerned about SPINE as that would make more sense for that kind of pain

Pancreatitis dogs vomit over and over and over and they toss and turn with pain not scream out in pain. If a dog screams out in pain it is really bad as they hide their pain.

I am worried is there a specialty hospital you go to that is open at night or over weekend.

sorry but i dealt with pancreatitis for a year and saw all the signs and this just does not sound like it to me

any other symptoms going on?

I think it is the spine

Has she had vaccines within last 2 months?

Ellie eats like she always does during an episode...

I wouldn't be surprised if it is the pancreas (and think a Spec cPL should be done), but I also think it's more likely something else.

I so hope it's not her back.

I agree, she is acting quite and weird and slow. I have noticed she sits often.

I think the Vet said Pancreatitis because he stomach and instestines had thick lining and bc he saw alot of gas in her. And that P is so common in the breed.

My bill says: Superchem/CBC/T4

Her screaming is more of a warning, or her anticipation if that makes sense?

Yes, I have a number of ER 24 hr hospitals and will absolutely bring her in if need be.

Something just isn't right Could gas pains be the reason? They also gave her a shot at the office and when I got home and was making her food, her "stress pace" picked up, so I was thinking maybe the shot made her feel a little better.

what shot?

there is an fda warning on metronidazole i posted so check it out - I think it is the shot version not pill though

her stress pace picked up meaning she was more stressful or less?

yeah my gut is not pancreas

Not sure on gas but if you think that is it give her pumpkin to get things moving out of her system quickly- also give her some green beans but food process them - both are high in fiber and will get her moving and firm her up

it sounds like she is guarding her back as she is backing up
