| Leggs Calf Perthes Frankie has what's called Leggs Calf perthes disease. He's having surgery on Monday. I'm terrified. Has anyone dealt with the Leggs Calf perthes?

| Thank You. I appreciate it. You know these little guys are so small. Frankie was only 3 lbs 1 oz on his last visit 2 weeks ago. He's not quite a year yet. I'm just so scared. I know things are going to turn out. I hope things turn out.

| I am sorry to hear about your baby's diagnosis of LeggCalvinPerthes Disease. It is a genetic condition (rarely secondary to an injury) where the circulation is not sufficient in the hip. The head of the bone dies and the leg becomes smaller and is carried up by the dog. Occasionally, they will put the foot down when they run but otherwise they carry it up and walk with a limp. The surgery removes the diseased portion of the leg bone.. The muscle and ligaments and tendons grow and form a sorta fake joint. The dog is not in pain after the surgery heals and they have recuperated. They will not have a true joint but they are fine..Your baby will e kay after the surgery, recovery and some physical therapy. Te vet will probably show you how to stretch and work the leg after a few weeks of healing. I hope this helps you understand the problem and the fix..I had a sweet little guy that I bought for use in a breeding program. He had an injury to his hip but he had the symtoms of LCP as well. I gave him to a vet tech, paid for his surgery and he is fine, now, and a therapy dog..Guess God had a different purpose for him.. |

| Oh you guys have no clue how good it is to see your replies. My heart just lost that extremely heavy feeling and I got goose bumps. You all sound so encouraging. Thank you so much. Boy Whispermom. No puns intended but you hit it right on the head. Thank you. So there seems to be very little pain & I can take him home tomorrow maybe? Will I need anything special? Should I put him in a crate? Should he walk at all? Thank you so much

I just held Ty and slept with him for a week cuz he kept crying for me. |

| Frankie had surgery today. The vet said he could not believe how much the bone had deteriated. He said it was a real good thing we had the surgery done as soon as we did. He said Frankie will be alot better now & I can pick him up in the morning. I'll keep you posted. Thanks
