Sick Yorkie Hi, my yorkie was just diagnosed as having seizures due to a low T4, and I was told she would need Thyroid and Phenobarbital for the rest of her life. Brandy is only 3 1/2 - and what happened was she started screeching and drooling and clinging to you like a cat with her claws. Later she was extremely disoriented - like she didn't know where she was - and just turn in circles. I took her to the vets and it took a week for him to get all the blood work back and in the meantime, the same thing occurred exactly 1 week apart. I have her on the meds and she seems like she is not sure of life anymore - just staring and sleeping. I do have another appointment with a different vet next week to get a second opinion. But, was wondering if anyone has had any of these symptoms. Thanks

turning in circles, disoriented, and pain sounds like GME and it can happen to a dog at any age. Sorry i missed your post earlier what meds is she on now? here is the thread please read through http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...very-sick.html Last edited by dwerten; 05-29-2010 at 10:24 PM. | |

do any of these symptoms sound like what is going on? Granulomatous Meningoencephalomyelitis (GME) also has your dog had any vaccinations prior to this occuring if so how long before? I think this little one could have had gme as well due to the pain and sudden turn this is why i think you should see a neurologist immediately http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...help-us-5.html Last edited by dwerten; 05-29-2010 at 10:32 PM.

Here is someone on here that i know whose dog had gme is any of this similar http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...halitis-2.html learning dogs with this have a high white blood count so was the blood work perfect when you took your dog in as dogs with epilepsy will have perfect blood work but have seizures once in a while Last edited by dwerten; 05-29-2010 at 10:46 PM.

another thread a sign is severe pain and why i think your girl was screaming out in pain. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-my-sofie.html I am going to use your thread to gather all this info and have admin do a link for GME of all these cases so people can see the signs. It may not be this but the low thyroid, pain, circling you need to get this ruled out by a neurology exam Dogs with epilepsy do not have low thyroid - can you please post the thyroid values as my dog is hypothyroid and i know about this so will compare numbers to my dog. Is your dog on soloxine? Another story http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-use-legs.html Last edited by dwerten; 05-29-2010 at 11:18 PM.

How low is the thyroid ? The thyroid will be off if the dog is sick, under stress or has recently been vaccinated. All of these things and many more can throw off the thyroid. If this baby has GME or Chiari the thyroid will most likely be off. So most likely testing the thyroid was a waste of time and there is another problem. When the problem is addressed the thyroid will fix itself without meds. If this were my dog I would get a second opinion.

Does anyone have this video or know the op so she can post as this may help someone and it was not coming up last night - cannot believe a vet thought she was being protective of her dog UGHHHHH this stuff makes me insane i want to get a link in library of all GME dogs that have ever been on yt so people can see the symptoms these owners saw in their dogs as it may help as we have been seeing more and more dogs come on here lately with neurological signs not sure if it is because it is spring and that is when the vaccination cards go out or what but that is what gme group seems to think as it happens every year their membership goes up this time of year and now we have seen about 4 dogs come on with neurological signs in the past two weeks http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ow-bridge.html Last edited by dwerten; 05-30-2010 at 07:00 AM.

another vet saying brain tumor when it was GME or NME http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-terriers.html also sounded like Georgia has a great vet school teaching hospital like we tried to get randi too in november but she could not get a ride and I tried to get Belinda to get her there but she lived too far away http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...unt-aai-7.html Also sounds like someone else had an issue with NC state on this thread as i had read that on the New GME group as well Also seems over and over Dr Sisson seems to be the expert on this and his protocol has worked on dogs such as Brooke Last edited by dwerten; 05-30-2010 at 07:34 AM.
