| shaking puppy my 16 week old 3 pound puppy named rocky shakes a ton. i have tried sweaters, holding him close. the vet put him on antihistamines because he thought it could be an allergic reaction to the flea bath he had to have at 12 weeks when i got him, he has also gotten kennel cough which seems to be resolved. but he still shakes alot. has anyone else had this happen to a pup? is he neurotic? he is adorable but i hate to see him shake in my arms.he also has not gAINED ANY WEIGHT IN THE 3 WEEKS I HAVE HAD HIM. we are vet bound today for shots which we have had to keep holding because he's always sick. thanks for any advice. michelle |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Poor little guy. I hope someone can give you some advice. Weight seems real reasonable for that age. Maybe he's just a little weak from the kennel cough. He's still pretty young. Glad you're taking him to the vet. Meanwhile, welcome to YT.

| Tucker shakes alot also, but it is usually when he is cold, like if he decides that his water would taste better if he were actually in the bowl with it, or if he hears another dog bark in the neighborhood or if he is running to fast and somehow does a back flip in the yard. He will sit there and shake until I pick him up and baby him and then he is fine. Anyways, enough about my boy, I would guess that your little man is not feeling well. What is actually making him uncomfortable is beyond me and hopefully your vet can give you some answers today. Do you have small children or alot of activity at your house? Is he left alone alot while you are working or are you at home with him? What were his living conditions like before you got him? You said that he had to have a flea dip, so that leads me to believe that he may have been outside and unsocialized with us humans. Something is making him uncomfortable and if you are loving him and feeding him, then it has to be a pain in his little body that is scaring him. Your vet should be able to help you so good luck and let us now how it goes.. |

| It could be alot of reasons he shakes. Some yorkies shake because they are nervous excited etc. Sometimes when they shake something is wrong with them like hypoglycemia. I would take him to the vet to make sure he is over the kennel cough or theyre arent other reasons for the shaking. He just might be a nervous pup though.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk. I'm sorry your baby is shaking a lot. Stewie had been doing that a lot, too @ that age. He grew out of it though. I think he was just chilled all the time. I brought him home in February and it was freezing in Chicago! I'd love to know who your breeder was since I'm from IL too.

| thanks for the info everyone thanks for all your kind replies. he's over the kennel cough and fleas thankfully.the vet thinks he might be cold, or nervous or it could be some neurological thing but thats unlikely. i am in park ridge,il so its cold here. he shakes in the house too but much less than outside. i think i'll just give him some time to grow up and quit worrying. i got him from a new breeder in elburn,il. it was her first litter from her dog. she breeds horses and the mama dog is a farm dog so hence the fleas. she let me know he probably had themwhen i got him. the strange thing is his mom was 12 pounds and the dad was 2 lbs. she thought rocky would be 6-7 but he's 16 weeks and only 3 pounds. where do you guys think he'll end up? thanks again. this group is great. i have learned a ton on here. michelle |

| Good news Maybe just keep him in a sweater or shirt for extra warmth. Did you actually see the 12 lb. mom and the 2 lb. dad???? That's a little curious. Did she breed the male and femal on purpose?? It's hard to even imagine that being possible You are supposed to double the 12 week weight to get a rough estimate of adult weight. I'm guessing he'll be in the five lbs range which is a great size!! My Bailey is five lbs. Hope you stick around and hang out! I've learned a ton on here too It's more fun to post when they aren't sick and you aren't worried!!! Never a dull moment with one of these little munchkins

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Hi...poor little guy- I have to ask this & don't want to scare you but....WHAT kind of FLEA BATH did he have ? Please don't say Hartz products !! Did the vet give him a flea bath ? Yorkies and other small breeds have toxic reactions to some Flea medications and it should ONLY be done with your vets supervision....I hope this is the case..... On the shaking - maybe dress him in something warm ? Could he be cold ? GOOD LUCK with your puppy...I would watch him carefully though... Can you ask your Vet to SPACE OUT his shots so he doesn't get them all at once ? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Shaking My baby Cali is 17 weeks old and 2.2 lbs. She has been shaking when I take her ourt the past couple of days> I think its due to the cold weather here in Gurnee. I have a sweater on her and she still shakes. She is still coughing a few times a day from the kennel cough that she had when I got her from the breeder even after 3 series of antibiotics. She is now on meds for a yeats infection in her ears. The vet said these tiny ones immune systems need to catch up so they can fight off all these little problems. |

| I'm almost wondering..... about the comment about the flea bath being toxic too. I remember a couple times my little Ginger 4.5 (now deceased) got sick just from accidentally getting into the line of bug spray for just a couple seconds! They are very fragile, especially at this young age. Poor little thing. Have you tried wrapping him when you hold him? And when he falls asleep you can just lay him down in it and they feel very secure. |

| This makes me wonder also. Does he shake ALL the time? Was he shaking when you saw him at the breeders house? Were the conditions he was living in clean? (I just ask because he had fleas and kennel cough). Has he grown in size even though he hasn't gained any weight? Does he play and seem energetic? Does he eat and drink willingly? I know it is a LOT of questions, but if you could try and anwer them for me I'd really appreciate it. |

| thanks for all the support the flea bath was done at the groomer who is next to the vet with vet approved stuff. the living conditons were fine but he came from a farm and his mom is a farm dog. they breed horses. he was in their house with kids etc. the breeder was a nurse who seemed very good. i am a nurse also and i was very comfortable with her. i had been to 3 other places before and had left without pups. she had warned me about the fleas and wouldn't do a bath till he was 12 weeks. thats when we did it. he didn't get the cough till baout a week after i had him. i had him with other dogs because i didn't know not to do that. anyway as for the 2 lb dad it was a dna tested sire and i bet it was artificial insemination cause it is hard to imagine 12 lbs and 2 lbs doing it. as for the shakes they are calming down now. i do think its a cold thing as well as nerves so i'm trying to work on both of those. thanks so much for the help. michelle |
