Oh, Susie, I am so sorry that Tink is having difficulties....you, too, with the headaches. I do agree that you might want to try an ex-pen or gate off the kitchen. Poor baby. She's had enough troubles without this. Hope that you figure something out. Keep us updated. ~Joanne~

Tuffy went through the same thing last month...we travel all across the US so he was in all sorts of climates & we thought it may've been that. The vet gave him Metroidazole & like you had us feed only chicken & rice but also had us give him baby immodium ad. We never did find out what the culprit was but I share your agony over the poor pups' messes since we travel in a semi truck Talk about fun! NOT

Hope Tink feels better soon but you're not alone; I noticed when Tuffy was sick there were several others with the same problem so it may have been a virus he picked up.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and advice. I've given her 1 ml of pepto and she seems to be calming down for the evening.

She keeps asking for kibble but I'm not giving her any til the diarrhea stops. I think she's tired of chicken and rice.

In the meantime, have you tried an x-pen? You could pad it down well (I have seen people use cheap shower curtains under and then piddle pads over that) and put her crate in there so she could go in and out. That way it will not be all over the house.
I've done this, also vinyl table cloths work great too.

Hope she is better. I agree, plain yogurt, and bland diet. Even if the water is tested and good, it will still ahve different chemicals/metals, etc in it. Also, the move, stress, and knowing that there are a lot of large Hogs in TX can upset her. Just jkidding on the Hog Part. She will get better.

The vet said she has allergies to the pollen. She said her poo was full of it so she must be inhaling it. It's everywhere, all over the car, the windows, the patio furniture. I'm struggling with it too but I'm having rotten headaches from it.

the pollen is so bad right now, it has coated everything around here too. I've been getting headaches as well but morgan has been fine. for her tummy, the yogurt definitely should help a little bit and there are a few things you can try for the pollen.

I have a ionic breeze in the main area that me and morgan live in. its great at getting rid of the pollen, dust, dander, etc... in the air. when i clean the blades its just gross to see all the stuff that's collected on it.

Also after she goes outside make sure you give her a good brush off. I don't know how long her hair is right now but if her body hair is short you can use something like a boar bristle brush to get all the pollen off.

Bathing her weekly also helps to keep her clean. Make sure you use a good shampoo and conditioner and rinse, rinse, rinse! Baby wipes are also a good idea in between baths to help get rid of the extra pollen that may have gotten on her coat and face.

i hope her diarrhea clears up soon. poor tink

We have cedar issues here in Texas and this year a ton of oak pollen but to be on the safe side for about a week you might try just giving her a good bottled water. If it happens to be something in your water that just doesn't agree with her system you would know that within a couple of days.

I just went through this with one of my momma dogs and someone suggested pumpkin and it did the trick.

Just a teaspoon full will do it. Use the canned pumpkin but not the one for pies, look at the ingredients so it says only pumpkin. Mine will eat it off the spoon (it does smell yummy) or mix in with the food a little.

I gave it to her once a day until her diarrhea was gone.

I hope she is feeling better soon, poor baby, lots going on. And I would give pedialyte in place of tap water for a little while then mix it with your tap water as she starts doing better.. Or mix it now, she needs the electrolytes anyhow I always give that when mine get diarrhea.

The pedialyte is not a bad idea at all! When I was a kid, if I went from one side of town to the other, the difference in the water source would keep me in the bathroom for a day or two even after I got back to my "own" water. I come across this a lot with fish: just because your well water tested OK for human consumption doesn't mean that there isn't something in there that could be lethal to fish (like copper, for instance). However, if it's been a month, she should be coming to terms with it by now ... unless it's really messing with her (which it appears to be doing). Me? I'd try some of that "purified" water you can buy at the store. Not spring water, but stuff that's run through massive filtration systems. It couldn't hurt ... *I* drink bottled water! and when I travel, I have it for the dogs, too.

The pumpkin is also good for a case of the runs ...

Pollen usually gives them skin problems and sneezes/coughing; I've never associated pollen allergies with the "runs".

Other suggestions given above about being able to give her more room are good - she could be reinfecting herself because she can't get far enough away from her own waste.

Whatever the answer is, I hope you find it soon. EVERYone is miserable when the baby's sick

.

Whoa - you freaked me out there for a minute about the hogs.

We do have MANY feral cats around and they drive Tink nuts. She is sure they need to be herded into a little group for her to play with. Crazy doglet!I bought some purified water today but I can't find any pumpkin. I used to give her that when she was a puppy. I'll try a different store near work tomorrow. Maybe they'll have some. She got yogurt and applesauce for dinner. Slurp!

Hope Texas gets better for you and Tink!

My Ruppi had bad bad poops over thanksgiving, we did a bland diet, vet gave her b-12 (i think) injection and meds, centrine, worked within a day.
Maybe that is something you can mention to your vet if you don't see her getting better?

Welcome to Texas, we are South in Corpus Christi, if you ever get down our way let me know!

Kalina82 has given you really good advice. In addition to taking Claritin, our vet has me bathing Armani weekly and using baby wipes every time she comes in from the outside. I hope that Tink is feeling better very soon.

Uh....we DO have hogs in Texas. They have been spotted in Clear Lake and that is a very populated area (suburb of Houston)! They are huge and ugly...and have been known to dig up people's yards. No kidding!

Then, around Austin, they have tarantulas. I had a friend who was in a new subdivision and he used to see them a lot when they were building new homes. Those nasty things live in the ground.

What part of TX are you in? Hopefully, not Austin..haha... those things would seriously make me sell my home.

Oh great! I am in Austin. I haven't seen any yet and hope I never do. Do they make mounds or holes or something you can see to watch out for them? Do they come in your house? Do they bite our furkids? I feel like wrapping the building in plastic or duct tape!
