| Sadie's Eyes! My 1 1/2 year old yorkie Sadie is having some major problems around her eyes! She was scratching at her face, so I took her to the vet. The vet said she has allergies, gave her some antiboitics for the cuts she made from scratching, and that was it. We bought a cone, and waited for her face to heal up, and once it did we took off the cone. As soon as we took it off, she scratched her face again! We took her back to vet to see if there was anything to do, and the vet said to give her Benadryl. We've been doing that, and its still not working! We took her to another vet, and they said the same thing. My poor baby is MISERABLE! We have changed her food, changed shampoos, bought skin soothers, EVERYTHING! Nothing is working! She has lost the hair around her eyes, and wants to scratch so badly. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to help her? I feel helpless! I have no idea what she is allergic to, or what I can do to stop the itching she has! |

| I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry that she's going through this. It's obvious that you care for her very much. I can't offer any advice or suggestions, just support. I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction. One thought...have you tried eliminating things from her diet to see if it will help? You said you changed her food, but did you try maybe taking all grains out of her diet? IDK...bless her heart.

| I am sorry your little one is going thru this. I don't have any medical suggestion but may try warm compresses? Just wipe her eyes off really well and then placing some warm towels over her eyes for a couple of moments several times a day. (???) Hot Rod was very itchy and untimatley we figured out he is allergic to chicken. If you go the route of testing different foods, you should do so one at a time and slowly as it may awhile for her to adjust to the new diet. Good luck!

| All I can do is throw some ideas out there. Is there chicken in her diet? Some are allergic to chicken. What kind of dog food is she on? It doesn't seem like the vets are curing the problem, so I would take the next step and make an appointment with a state veterinarian school - see if they have a specialist that may be able to help your little one.

| Right now she is on Science Diet. I really doubt that it's a food allergy, because the only place bothering her is around her eyes. Not ruling it out, just doubting it. We live on 7 1/2 acres, and right now our yard is FULL of pollen, and other allergens that are driving me crazy! Does anyone have a dog with inhalent allergiers? |

| My daughter has a Shih-Tzu that was plagued with allergies for several years. He would scratch his face raw. Changing to a dog food with no grains has been like getting a new dog. He would have raw, weeping, open sores not only around his face but all over his body. He has not had a sore since. As someone who suffers from inhalant allergies personally, I do know that removing foods that trigger allergies helps me with my hayfever, as it just gives your body less of a challenge to deal with. I would certainly give it a try, it can't hurt to try.

| Do you burn candles? I have a friend whose cat did this and the vet said allergies but no clue as to what she was allergic to. Finally after process of elimination she realized it was the perfumes from the candles she burned. She stopped burning candles and the allergies went away. Granted it's been about 8 years now and she misses candles! It was worth it to her though! Good Luck to you and your poor baby!

| My Furbaby has the exact same problem. She has been scratching at her eyes so much that they are raw. She is miserable.. I went and bought her a cone and she still finds away to scratch them. Is there anything OTC (topical lotion/gel) I can put on her eyes to relieve the itching? |

Try to keep the face clean by rinsing or washing daily. You can use Natural tears to rinse the eyes daily. Do not use anything in the eyes that says for allergy eyes or anything that says gets the red out. ONLY Plain Natural Tears. Also a Chamomile Tea rinse often will relieve the itching for the skin and eyes and it is safe and Non-Toxic for pets. | |

| I think it would be a very good idea to try to change food. Really what will it hurt? Try something grain and chicken free. I like to feed Natural Balance. They have several varieties that are limited ingredient. It will take some time to see an improvement with a change of food. If you purchase from Petco they do have a return policy. Right now I am feeding Sweet Potato and Bison. But they also have Venison, Lamb and Fish varieties as well. Pebbles was a big time scratch/itchier and the food change worked for her. I also add a tsp of Coconut Oil to their food which also seems to have further helped. Good luck and I hope that you are able to figure out what the issue is for your little one.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear about your baby. My Cali had a similar problem. She scratched her face so bad that she had sores on her nose and a lot of hair missing. We tried everything and had allergy testing done and no reason was found. I did switch her food to a lamb and rice but we had to put her on Atopica as nothing else worked. I would try the food switch and see if that helps. The pollen could be a cause also. You may want to take her to a specialist if nothing else helps.
