If the dog goes down then plasma transfusion is the best treatment even over hepastarch as jill had hepastarch i believe but it was the plasma that brought her back on track i believe. This is a tough disease sadly and the dogs can go down quick so it is critical to get on top of it in the beginning like it sounds like this owner is doing which is great

I definitely would consult dr centers for internal medicine since she is in your area. Also if you are near Red Bank dr green is a great internal medicine specialist but she only goes by referral from another client so if she is close let me know and i will give you my friends name to use for referral as my friend has gone to her for years- she has a liver shunt survivor with 25% use of his kidneys and she has 6 dogs and she is super picky too lolll

Red Bank Veterinary Hospital
Have you seen a dog with PLE......it's not pretty....I have....talk to Rosmark...on here, she recently lost one to the disease and she was gone within a month. It is genetic and not to scare the OP mortality rate is not great.....diet alone cannot save a dog. Neither can holistic medicine, it takes aggressive treatment...

Yes, Dr. Centers works with PLE all the time....

never have dealt with it nor do i want to but i know you have to be on it fast and i know susan Davis saved jill's life a few months ago as vets basically did not give a good outcome and she is doing great now so I feel strongly she is the best in treating this nutritionally as i have seen her help a few of these dogs now. The only treatment is steroids and added protein to diet to keep the protein up in the body so they do not lose it too fast and keep the body balanced this way. If the dog goes down then plasma transfusion. Some vets use hepastarch but that did nothing for jill the plasma helped her though.

I didn't think there was an issue especially being a professor at Cornell, sitting on the board....too much behind that woman.

Thank you guys for all of the helpful information and links, I will def. be doing some research this weekend.
In your search results for SAIM dr's I did see one in Amherst, NY which is where I live so I will be contacting her on Monday!!

So far so good today - fed her about 1/2 hour ago and no vomit *fingers crossed* - she was doing so much better on the Relgan and I know why the dr wanted me to take her off (trial and error) but it seemed to make it worse once we took her off.

Hopeully she'll call me today or Monday with Maddie's new CBC results from Friday - and hopefully the protein will be up from 3.

As for the B12 deficiency - Maddie's gotten 2 shots of it so far and I think has to continue getting them for another 4 weeks

well sounds like you and your vet are really on top of this which is great so keep up the good work and the good thing is you caught it early so always best to catch things early as the out come is usually much better this way so great job in staying on top of it and educating yourself to get your dog the best care and please keep us posted

UPDATE

Maddie was in a bad way today, throwing up still with the meds. Her blood work from yesterday came back and Total Protein was at 2.5, Albumim was at .9 - the Vet said she was surprised Maddie didn't have adema (sp) she is sending the leftover blood to a diff lab to compare the readings and we'll have that info on Monday... we started her on Pred today - 10mg/day. Plus we went out and got some diff food - we bought BLUE brand Salmon & Potato and are going to wet it and puree it for her. We've decided to stay away from the chicken because when she does vomit there is always chicken in it.

I will be emailing Dr. Center(I found her email on the Cornell website) to ask for advice, the worst she can say is she can't help me.
Also, the internal medicine specialist in Amherst will be getting a call from me Monday. At this point I can't spend $90 on a phone consult with someone who is across the country. I just can't see how she can help without even seeing my dog. If I lived in California, she'd be the first person I'd call.

I'm hoping the Pred will work. We are holding off on food until tonight to let her stomach settle a bit then we will try the new food.

If her protein gets any lower and she needs to be hospitalized or have a plasma transfusion we've decided that we don't want to put her through that - just to have it happen again in 6 months. We want our dog to live a happy life, not one that involves Vet appointments 1/week. We are seeing what we can do and if this diet works - we will continue meds and have her monitored every 6 months. I can not think of anything else we could be doing.

We've call a few Vets in our area and all of them were not familiar with Lymphagiectasia so that's why we will be contacting Dr. Center and the internal medicine specialist in our area.
