Armani is home right now and he's doing okay. I have his report from the vet so I will post that here in a few & maybe someone can tell me what it means?

I hate to admit this, but this morning I was trying to think about what could have happened to Armani...and then it hit me...I accidentally sat on him last night and I checked him out and he seemed just fine so i didn't think anything of it. Armani is like my shadow, he goes where I go, and I was on the computer and usually he sits on my lap but he just started going behind me and laying there. I got up to get my phone & came back and sat down right on him. my husband was home with him when i left and said he was fine....said he had the runs but he didn't notice anything else that was off....and just for the record i don't need anyone giving me the i should have been more careful speech....i already feel bad enough so keep your negative comments to yourself. I spoke with the vet today to fill her in on what i thought hurt him and she agreed that thats probably what did it. Armani is doing pretty good right now. He's been eating & drinking just fine, he's peeing and theres no blood in it. he's on meds for his eye and it's already looking better. I'm not sure if he can see...the vet said he was unresponsive to light but i know he can hear...she said it could have been the meds that she used to dilate his eye so my vet will recheck that Monday. All in all he seems okay but i am keeping a VERY close eye on him like the vet told me....Even with Armani not feeling well he still has to be with me. He's sleeping on my lap right now. This whole thing has been a nightmare, but for now i'm just thankful he's stable. I've been beating myself up and i'm completely drained. Armani is like one of my kids and I hurt him....it's the worst feeling in the whole world. Thank you again for all your kind words. please continue to keep Armani in your thoughts & prayers...he could really use it.
Please do not spend any energy on blaming yourself for an accident. Armani needs you right now and he needs to know that his mommy is there 100% Focus on your little one. He's forgiven you so it's time that you do the same. Sending prayers that everything turns out fine. Hugs. Please keep us updated.

Even though I still feel guilty (I probably always will) deep down I know it was a total accident. The vet wanted to keep him another night but I had to pull him out due to our finances ($1300 for the one night) and that's also why I felt so guilty, but in all honesty I think i did the right thing. and the vet told me what to look out for and bring him back if anything happened which it hasn't (THANK GOODNESS) I would have borrowed money if i had to, but i was told he should be okay to go home they just wanted to monitor him another night. He is doing SO much better today. I can see above his left eye a bruise and his eye is still swollen but it is getting better. I don't think he will have any brain damage...i'm no vet, but this is only day 2 and he's improved SO much. He's still sleeping A LOT but he will get up and walk around. He's eating & drinking plenty as well. I have noticed he will run into walls and i'm starting to wonder if he has some eye sight loss....i know he can hear me i just don't know if he can see...maybe it's just the left eye he's having problems with? So I will have my vet check that out later today...since it is technically Monday. Armani slept in bed with me last night and he did really well. He did pee on me once, but after that he would get up and move around so I could tell he needed to go to his pad. I picked him up some treats today and he loved them He definitely deserves to be spoiled right now (not that he wasn't before, but now even more!) I want to give him a bath REALLY bad but i'm not sure if that would stress him out too much? he loves showers, he really likes the warm water he just hates getting out and going out into the cold....I'm really nervous about going to the vets. i'm so worried that i'm going to get bad news. He seems okay to me but maybe he's not. UGH i'm so stressed out to the point it's making me sick to my stomach. I will update after our visit to the vet. please pray that everything goes well! And thanks again for all your kind words, they have definitely made me feel better. When I get upset thinking about what happened I come on here and re-read your posts. it's really helped me get threw some hard moments. God Bless you all

Thanks for the update, Kari! I am so happy to hear that Armani is improving. I will definitely pray for him tonight...and for you as well. I hope things go well at the vet. Will look forward to the report! Please try to stop being so hard on yourself.

I am so sorry your little Armani is sick but am glad to hear he is doing better.
I'm sorry you are going through this. It's always scarey when anything is wrong with our furbabies.
I will keep Armani and you in my prayers.

hang in there and we are all praying for the best - I would not do anything to stress him right now so let him go and do not bath him just let him rest and heal his little body needs to heal right now so he can be stinky lol Wow 1300 to just watch him that just kills me. As far as the eye sight you can always go to an opthamologist later to have a thorough eye exam as they have more equipment than a vet that can better tell you that but right now the most important thing is let him rest and let his body heal

Thank you for updating us. I'm glad to hear he is doing better. He just needs your loving care and I would keep him as still as possible for awhile. Let him recover. Sending prayers for Armani and some hugs for you, Kari.

He was sweaty and when i picked him up his head would just flop to one side....i knew something was REALLY wrong so i took him to the vets and when we got there she looked at his eye and then looked in his ear and it was bruised as well. They took him right back & started treating him & they told me he had blood in his urine..but just the first time he went. they put him in an oxygen chamber to make sure blood was getting to his brain because it was swelling. They called me this morning and said he's stable for now so i have to take him to my vets on monday but i'm SO scared to bring Armani home! The vet said he could stand for a second but when he tried to walk he just got off balanced and fell over....they don't know yet if he is going to have brain damage and they said it's possible for him to have seizures. I'm freaking out! I love my Armani so much and I feel so bad he has to go threw this. I haven't stopped crying since yesterday this is the worst thing that has ever happened to me.
Have you looked through your house for any more vomit? When I first read your discription, my gut instinct told me this pup may have chewed an electric cord, and when the shock hit him, threw him into a piece of furniture with enough force to separate him from the cord, and to cause the head injuries you described. If there was only evidence of vomitus in his mouth, I suspect a larger amount would be found at the point of contact with an electric cord, or between there and his path to return to his kennel. Also, if you sat on him hard enough to do these types of injuries, you would have noticed something wrong when you checked him over, or at least within a half hour or so of the incident. Sorry, This has bothered me since I first read your post, and this is JMHO.

Sending prayers for you both...

Post 33 explains what she suspects caused Armani's injuries.

To the OP, I hope Armani continues to do well and I'm praying for a full recovery.

Thanks, I did read that (for once!) I'm just saying that the injuries appear to me to be more severe than being sat on, (not that being sat on isn't severe) and I guess that depends too on the size of the dog, size of the owner, length of time owner spent sitting on the dog, how hard the owner sat down on the dog, and what type of chair they were in (padded or solid wood/plastic/metal). And I can't get past the head trauma... when that occurs it's the brain's immediate reaction to blunt force is to swell, that wouldn't begin hours later... it would be evident/dog would be showing symptoms within the hour.... Sitting on a dog would cause more crushing type injuries and I am guessing (visualizing) immediate difficulty breathing, walking, etc. The OP said dog appeared fine, DH said dog appeared fine...

I believe that if a pup chews an electrical cord, there will be burns around the mouth...and possible lung problems.

Butts are generally soft (in most areas), and chairs (that Yorkies get on) are usually padded. Brain swelling occurs when the head is travelling at a rate of speed and suddenly is stopped, and the brain crashes into the side, top, or back of the skull. I can't see how a dog, sitting or laying in a chair and getting sat on, how the head would develop enough speed to stop so suddenly within 3-6 inches (distance from dog's head to chair) as to warrant the level of injury seen in this dog. Unless butt was being slam/dunked into the chair, which I guess is a possibility too.

All I'm really trying to say here is: I don't think his injuries are a result of being sat on. And, yes, I may be wrong, am most likely wrong, as I am not a vet, I wasn't there, and I haven't seen the dog, not that I would know what I was looking at if I did see the dog.

I will offer prayers that Armani continues to improve and makes a speedy and complete recovery! I am not a priest nor a minister, so I don't know how well my prayers will work, but I will try anyway. I will offer healing thoughts, oops! I am not a Healer either, and my brain is on the fritz, so thinking is out of the question. Hope??? Yes, I can hope he gets well soon! I think I can safely lay claim to optimism???
