I'm sorry they are giving you a hard time. Vets can return foods to companies if they don't work for the animal. I'm pretty sure both Science Diet and Purina let Ellie's vet do this...

Write to the company, tell them the story and ask for samples!

they said i can return or exchange any unopened or unused food; but how can i try a food if i dont open a bag??
i asked for a little sample in a bag; which they didnt have??
but whatever, anyway i think it's best to stick with wet food, since she's doing well on it and she likes it.

Hmmm, Ellie ate both foods for 3 to 4 weeks. We decided they weren't working, so we returned them open and got a full refund.

lucky you; maybe this vet doesnt want to spend time returning items to the company. i dont know but i am not buying a whole bag, not knowing how ava will react to it. so far the wet food is good; so i will stick with that.

Mine does too. The manufacturers offer a money-back guarantee so the vet doesn't lose money.

i had them tell me they could not take back shampoo before and i said i called the mfg and they said you can lollll so the vet said go ahead and return it so you may want to call mfg and tell vet you called mfg and they told you that you can return it - i think they do not like to hassle with it but if they know you know they can maybe that will make a difference

if that's their policy; nothing i can do about it; it' s a private practice and i guess he's free to do whatever.
i dont want to make waves with this new vet; especially if i want him to spend time taking care of my ava; i dont want to get on his bad side, just for a bag of food.

I agree....not worth it at all. I would simply call the manufacturer and ask for samples. That way you can avoid buying a large bag you might get stuck with.

ok; her blood allergy test results came back
she's allergic to:

food class

corn 2
soybean 2
rice 2
lamb 2
pea 2
duck 1
yeast 1

the vet said she has very low level; and he said she doesn't really have food allergy; since she was eating purina pro plan that has the above ingredients (lamb, rice , corn..) ; he concluded that maybe some dust mites got on the dry food and she ate it; thus triggering the allergy reaction.
for now she will stay on the iams low residue since she's doing well on it (which has corn grits); we won't know if she's allergic to it, until we stop the prednisone therapy.
she's down to once daily dose of prednisone; in one week she will be down to one dose every other day for another 4 to 6 weeks.

this is the scale range of the classes
0 abscent or undetectable
1 very low level
2 low level
3 high level
4 very hight level
5 ultra high level
6 ultra high level

classes represent IgF anitibody specific for the respective allergen; consider class 2level and greater for allergen immunotherapy.

by the way; ava is peeing a lot; and having an accident on the carpet, almost every day. is that a normal side effect of the prednisone?
i am scared she's developing diabetes from the meds; but she's only on it for a bit over 3 weeks.

that is normal as she is on a high dose sounds like as pred makes them produce more urine so they pee alot more and sometimes can pee in their sleep
