OMG Moose May Need a 2nd LP Surgery!! Hi everyone! Sorry I've been away so long! I got a new job where I'm typing on the computer all day long so I put the computer away and the end of the day and do want to go near it again, haha. Most of you know about Moose's LP surgery last October because I was so worried, scared, and clueless about how we would get through it. And thank you again SO MUCH for all your posts, thoughts, prayers and advice! You all were just amazing and helped so much! The surgery was a success, or so we thought, and Moose was doing just fine and seemed a happy puppy. He was back to walking and playing just like before the LP, and two vets gave us the and all clear that he would do great. Then, two days ago, I noticed him kind of "hitching" his left back leg. He also yelped a couple times when I picked him up, and stopped and sat down in the middle of walking or playing like he was hurt. All signs of LP injury. I took him to the vet yesterday and sure enough- she said his left back leg is luxating medially again. I am absolutely distraught and devestated! How could this happen again?! Yesterday he could walk but he just didn't want to but today he is essentially immobile. I can tell he is in alot of pain because he was panting and shaking until I started cuddling him. He is only 4lbs and to put him through another surgery and recovery is terrifying. It's barely been 6 months! Not to mention, I am still paying for the last one and simply can't afford another $2000 surgery right now. Has anyone ever had to do back to back LP surgeries?! I am so angry and upset!!

Being angry and upset is not going to help, it will only make you more stressed. Take a deep breath so you can think straight. I am so sorry Moose may need more surgery. Praying he dosen't but if he does you'll find a way, I'm sure. Remember this is not something he wants either. I know it must stink to think you get passed one obsticle only to have to face it again. I will keep him in my prayer's and hope it won't be necessary, at least at this time.

Roxy had bi-lateral surgery done by an Certified Ortho Vet. We discussed how the surgery would go, "cut and pin" deepen the grove and tighten the ligaments. During the surgery, the Dr/ saw how Roxy has a slight curvature in her bone structure. The Dr. made a decision, that bc of the curvature, Roxy would do fine with just deepen the grove and tighten the ligaments. So that is all she did. At Roxy's 6 week check up, her right leg was luxating again. So back in for surgery, this time doing the planned "cut and pin". Aprrox. 6 months later, her left leg started to luxate. We were going to do surgery again, but she had a staph infection and we were dx that she also has liver issues. So surgery was put on hold. It has been about 2 years now, and I don't see have signs or distress coming from that one leg. I am too fearful to put her under again. I am supplementing her with Cosiquin and I am just going to take it from there ...but yeah it sucks!!! Roxy's first surgery was $3000 To do the 'repair' surgery, we had to pay the meds, etc. and stay, it was approx. $800

Oh goodness, that sounds awful! Hopefully she will be fine I took Moose back to his surgeon on Wednesday, he said that his left knee is unstable- that it can be "popped out" but from what he can tell it is in most of the time. He didn't think that it was severe enough to do surgery right now, which is good. But...he didn't do x-rays, he said to give Moose about 7 days of good rest to see if it was just a small injury that was causing pain. Well yesterday Moose was acting normal! He wanted to walk, run and play- but I didn't let him, I made him rest. But he was looking just fine, no limping or pain! And this morning... Moose isn't walking again His leg is hurting a lot and he doesn't really want to move much, just be cuddled. I had such high hopes yesterday that it was just something small that needed rest, but today he's hurting again....

Sadie has level 2 almost 3 LP. She was holding her leg up and not using it at all and we just kept giving her time to heal up and keep waiting to see. One night DH heard a pop come from her somewhere and swore it was her knee and after that she's slowly progressed into walking/running/jumping and playing on the leg with very little if any signs of a limp. We are supplementing with Cosequin as was suggested and i think it might be helping her out. I've heard a few people say that when they are diagnosed young, sometimes it's almost as though they keep growing and grow out of it bothering them. I'm praying this is all we ever deal with for Sadie and that it's over for many many years...i know someday we may have to do a surgury, but waiting and seeing was our best bet and it actually worked and she did get better. Prayers for you and Moosie...good luck and we hope he is healed.
