Quick Question about Immodium I have recently been on holidays. Some of my yorkies stayed with relatives and unfortunately some of them had to go to a boarding kennel. One that was in the boarding kennel came home with diarrhea and it is now starting to affect them all, one by one. I know it is nothing serious, it runs its course in a couple of days, it is just annoying. My question is, I know that you have to wait a while to let the toxins pass from their systems before giving medication, but how long should I wait before I give Immodium. (diarrhea is not bloody or mucousy, just really watery) Thanks for any input.

Thanks for the info. I gave Immodium to two of my girls last nite. They are still pooping but at least not every ten minutes. I usually let diarrhea run its course, and do give probiotics. It is just that I have 6 dogs and am babysitting for 2 others. I know they will all get this and know it is not serious as 2 of them are already over it. I am just getting a little tired of cleaning the poopies and with 8 dogs in the house, all with the potential to get it, I have a pretty good idea that I don't want any visitors right now or they will think I am living in a barn. They already think I am living in a zoo but at least it doesn't usually stink. Thanks, Audrey

Hi Audrey...have you tried pumpkin or chicken and white rice? Are you sure they didn't pick up something while being boarded? If it were something that one of them ate and it gave them diarrhea then I don't think it would spread to the others. Maybe you should have a stool sample checked to be sure. That being said..one of my girls gets diarrhea when she is stressed so maybe they were all stressed from the recent change of routine.

I have been feeding them all a bland diet since we came home on Monday. I am pretty sure it is just stress or perhaps a little bug that was picked up at the boarding kennel. I know it is not serious as none of them have been really sick, it seems to run it's course in 24 hours or less. I am just going for the quick fix and Immodium seems to be the best choice for the quick fix. I have just been letting them poop away for about 12 hours to make sure that they get rid of all any toxins that might be in their systems and then giving them the Immodium to make it stop. That is what my doctor recommends for people is just to let it happen for a little while and as long as there is no mucus, blood or other signs of illness, it is ok to stop the diarrhea. Seems to be working the two that were pooping last nite seem to be done now. Now I guess I just wait to see who gets it next. Ah, the joys of having multiple dogs in the house. Audrey
