If a basic skin culture hasn't even been done yet - or even a scraping, which can immediately be looked at under scope - then you may want to start there, bc you could get a diagnosis VERY quickly. So, when you wrote: "nobody seams to be able to tell us whats wrong, the vets don't know" -- what did the vets do to test her skin? To recap, what you can do right away is - take her in, they can do a scraping, and then both look at it under scope to see if she is full of bacteria (staph infection), but they can then also grow this out in culture for at least 10 days to see if she also has fungus, which would not surprise me. Please do this soon - staph is dangerous when left unchecked.

Patti, What other symptoms come with Cushing's Desease? I am just wondering if that may have been what Teddy had. We went to several vet's and not one mentioned it. The holistic vet did mention a psychiatrist! I thought she was nut's! | |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() Thanks. Maya's body was pretty much covered too and she itched so bad and panted all the time. It is a bad disease and one a lot of vets miss in diagnosing. That had to be so miserable for your little terrier.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() I first took Maya in with skin sores and hair loss on her tail and sides. They treated her for skin condition after doing skin scrapes, with antibiotics and they kept coming back and then she started to lose weight but was always hungry and thirsty and itchy,so they did thyroid tests. The thyroid profile came back indicating a thyroid condition and they started her on thyroid medicine which didn't improve anything so I took her to a dermatologist who thought it was Cushing's. They did the ACTH stim test and it showed Cushing's then they did an ultrasound to see if her adrenal glands were enlarged and they were normal so they started treatment. So it was over 6 months to get her diagnosed.

| ![]() The only way to diagnose this pup is to go to a vet....and if you have done that then ask him/her for a referral to a dermatologist. I realize that you said money is an issue, but if you don't do something, this sounds like it is getting worse. I hate to think your pup is suffering. ![]() When you go, just let the vet know your financial circumstances so that they hopefully will take it easy on you and order only what is absolutely necessary. A specialist is more likely to come up with a fast diagnosis.
