Mary, you're right about the Nutri-Drops being fast absorbing and I have used them in the past. I tend to not recommend it due to the low dosage needed compared to other products. It's very easy for someone to over-do it if they're not familiar with it. That, and the fact that it usually has to be ordered and most people need something that is easily available.

Not sure if you read the whole thread, but the OP posted that she had gotten Molly to eat some kibble since her first post. That's great and is what you would expect in a 10 week old pup.

I think the confusion over what meds the baby was getting was from a post made by someone else. I had never heard of anything but albon being used for coccidia until I came on this site.

I understand what you're saying. Everyone has their methods of doing things. I usually don't recommend Karo (but in small doses) or NutriCal. Reasoning.....if given too much and in larger doses; NutriCal can cause diarreah as can Karo.....as well as contributing to the possibility of diabitis.

I did see where Molly ate some kibbles. But, based on Molly's owner information, she was still having a bit of a struggle to get her to eat more readily. The Gerber's Rice Cereal recommendation was in efforts to boost the pups energy level and getting the pup to eat on it's own more readily. I still have one that is a wee one eating kibbles & puppy food as well as Gerber's rice cereal at 18 weeks of age.

LOL, yes, we do all have our own methods. Did you see the link I posted earlier about the liver processes? I posted that as someone had recommended to the OP to use Nutri-Cal daily for a year.

You must have a really small one if you're feeding like that at 18 weeks. I have a little girl that is now 6 weeks old that I had to supplement for 5 weeks. I was really worried that she wasn't 'taking root' as she stayed so small for so long. She has showed a slow, steady gain and is now 11 1/2 ounces and is very lively. She's now eating softened kibble along with nursing and is doing well.

I just tried feeding Molly some of Newman's Own Organic Turkey and rice canned food and she LOVED it! I am now afraid I gave her a bit too much to eat. She gobbled it up like you wouldn't believe and begged for more so I gave her 2nd's and 3rd's. She ran to poop soon after, her tummy is huge and she started shaking. I wrapped her in a kitchen towel and now have her cuddled on my lap and she seems calmer now. Please tell me how much canned food should I give her at a time and how many times a day. Maybe 1 tablespoon 3x/day mixed with some dry food?

Wow! NutriCal for a year, that would be asking for trouble. I do keep it on hand, but not given on a regular basis.

The wee one I have is growing, and eating well, puppy kibbles and wet food. She's active and full of the $$$$$, but because of that I make sure that she has enough to stick to her ribs.

Great for Molly. Sometimes it's just finding the right combination for them to eat properly. If she's hungry let her eat to heart's content.

See.. and i think everyone on here is different and has different experiences.. when we got our Bella she was on eukanuba food i think, we switched her right away to california natural food.. i know we should have transitioned her but she didnt eat much of the hard kibble anyway... i didnt want her to be strictly on the can food either... When we went to the vet to order the food for Bella she was very concerned at the possibility of us feeding her JUST canned food.. said there isnt enough nutrition for puppies in the canned food.. what we did was she got a few teaspoons of wet along with a teaspoon of cottage cheese in the morning and we soaked her kibble to make it a little soggier.. but now she doesnt care what she eats... she will drag her food all over the place!!! actually she will drag everything everyplace..

I dont know what i would do without all the information people give on here... I think sometimes it gets a little overwhelming... but i think with puppies its a trial and error type thing.. our Bella is small too.. she just hit the 2 pound mark at 18 weeks i think.. and she is FEISTY as ever!! we also had nutri-cal on hand but have never had to use it... its scary when they are so small!! but good luck!! arent they fun!!!

I agree with previous posters - try to concentrate your efforts on getting food and meds into her. You don't need to worry about getting her house trained or to stop gobbling her pooh at this point. Once she's healthy, eating on her own and stable, then you can move on to the next issues. You are already doing a super-hero's job by just keeping her going.

But please remember to take care of yourself, too. Otherwise, you're going to collapse and then you won't be able to help her at all.

My main concern in regards to her eating her poop is if she can continue to re-infect herself with this intestinal parasite by doing so??

solid gold is a good canned food as well as merrick, dogs wells vitality are just a few, solid gold is available at petco I think, wellness is good too good luck and halo as well

The answer is Yes she can. So you need to keep a close eye on that and get it cleaned up ASAP.

Not sure how true it is but someone recommended to me using 3/4 of a teaspoon of apple sauce (plain) to help with vomiting.

Maybe someone with more experience could help...

Thanks for the clarification about reinfection. What I meant was not to spend alot of time finding an additive to make her poop less appealing. So it sounds like for now, it might be best to just pick it up quickly and worry about fixing the behaviour later.

Our little yorkie mix used to love to clean out our cat litter box, gobbled goose poop any time when we were out on a walk on the bike path near the river, and even expressed interest in his own from time to time, but he grew out of it by the time he was about a year old.

Thanks. But she really is not vomiting. Just that one time a tiny bit because I let her over eat. But I will try and remember this should the problem ever come up.
