How long should it take for the turkey to work through her system and the pumpkin to help relieve her? How much pumpkin and how often?

| My Sammie had the same problem when I tried to change his food. I put him in a sink of warm water and massaged his anal area and a very hard poop came out eventually. After that a little loose poop came out and he was fine. |

Ok, I will try that tonight. I believe she is starting to poop (I have another dog so sometimes it's hard to tell) but her stomach is still VERY hard. How long did it take for his stomach to be soft again. It seems as thought everytime she eats it gets hard again. I'm so confused and not sure what to do.

| He was fine that same day. All the poop came out when I put him in the warm water. I hope she gets well soon. I was a nervous wreck, I'm sure you are too but she'll be fine I'm sure. |

| Hello, I'm new here and have a yorkie at home. She is my baby. In response to this thread I read an article and also my vet told me to never feed my dog turkey. It can do something to the liver or something. I will dig the article up and send the link if you like. I make my own dog food so not sure what wellness turkey is. Also for a constipated dog you gave give it a warm bath. The water on the rectum stimulates it to move and by the end of the bath your dog will be moving fast. I have used this twice and it works great. |

| I looked at symptoms for liver disease, she still will play and walk, she is eating, not as much as usual but this is probably due to her belly being swollen. They did an x-ray and ultrasound and did not see anything wrong with her liver. She is not vomiting nor is she is jaundice. When they did the x-ray they could see all the poop stuck in her, so I am really hoping it just needs to come out still and they did not miss anything. If she is not better by tomorrow I am taking her back in. I am currently giving her pumpkin and Myicol as reccommended by the vet.

| Yes, I have been in contact with him everyday to give him an update on her. I would never go this long without letting them know. If she is not better by the time I get home I am taking her in tonight.

Why would Petco and Wellness make turkey if it is not good for them? I don't understand.

Some dogs can tolerate turkey, some can't. I can give Lady a little turkey breast on Thanksgiving with no problem, but my sister's Jack Russell got violently ill one Thanksgiving from turkey. | |

The turkey I am giving her is canned turkey made for dogs from Wellness, the thing is is that when I bought it at petco the girl told me I could give this to her as a meal, but when I read the can it say's for supplements and to be "added" to food or dry food. So I am not sure if that is what caused the problem or not. when I took her to the vet on Tuesday and they emptied her anal sacs and probed her she pooped and her tummy was back to normal. So I brought her home and fed her that turkey again and she instantly swelled up again. This is what really confuses me, how does that happen unless you are allergic to it and her allergy test, which I am now questioning says she is NOT allergic to turkey. I am just confused I don't know what to do anymore. I hate guessing games, I just want her back to normal. NOTE: Also, on Saturday and Sunday, I gave her raw vension. They told me that was fine also. I bought that at the Pet Bistro. I really never feed her human food with the exceptions of carrots and pumpkin. I did give her our turkey on Monday because that was all she would eat.

| Sometimes the "elimination diet" can be the best way to diagnose food allergies. Stop feeding her turkey and see if her stomach issues go away. |

| This sounds very awful to deal with. I hope she gets better and is able to eat without bloating up soon. Not to sound rude at all, but is your vet really doing anything to help her other than continually probing her to poop? I mean I don't know much about dogs and their digestive systems, but constantly probing and cleaning the anal sacs sounds like it's doing more harm than good. and why can't the vet figure out what's causing her to bloat up to begin with, shouldn't he be smart enough to know what to feed her and what's actually causing the bloat instead of letting you come in every day for manual poop probing?? maybe i'm not reading this right or something... but personally i'd see a new vet that could fix this problem and not just keep forcing her to poop over and over. also i feed a home made diet that was formulated by my aunt's mom whose hobby is dog nutrition...maybe you could see a nutritionist and have them formulate a diet just for your dog without the allergens and that would be balanced and healthy. it might not always be the turkey, (probably is) but it could be something else in the kibble that's making her sick. if you want my Raw recipe i'll gladly share it, but it looks like your dog is allergic to some of the ingredients so i don't think it will help.. good luck on all this..hope you find out what to feed and stop her bloating soon and hope she feels better real soon |

Oh, she was only probed once and when they did that her anal sacs, that were filled cleaned out. But yes, I am wondering why they can't just tell me why all of sudden this is happening. She seemed to be doing better last night and this morning I gave her homemade chicken with pumpkin and some green beans and she swelled up AGAIN. I am waiting for them to call me back. I have been giving her the myicol every hour as suggested and as I said it seemed to be working but now this morning. this is breaking my heart. I just want her to be back to normal like she was last week before all this started. thank you
