| Cracked Nail Jack cracked his nail "vertically" (the split goes goes pretty far up). He doesn't seem to be in any pain and is acting like his normal self. My biggest concern is it getting infected. I spoke with someone I know and she basically said to let the nail grow and to let it heal on it's own. Has anyone experienced anything of this sort with their Yorkies? I think I'll be taking him to see a vet tomorrow.

| I had a female that split a nail too -- I don't know how, but we noticed it was cracked. We put nail glue on the nail to keep it together until it could grow out a little. There wasn't any open flesh, so it did not bother her and she didn't chew on it at all. Good luck.

| My girl, Sasha, had a nail split horizontally on her back paw almost all the way around! The quick was exposed and looked painful. The advice I was given was to go ahead and cut the nail and use flour to stop the bleeding...or wait and take her to the vet. I took the 2nd recommendation. She has been in a MUCH better mood since having the nail cut!

| You can also use super glue. My Yorkie had a nail cut too short by his groomer and we could not get it to stop bleeding, so we used super glue. Just be very carefull using it and blow on it until it dries. |

| Haha I dont think i'd use super glue....I'd hate to accidentally glue my dog's nails together or worse-to my finger. I live in a very dry climate and my dogs nails and paw pads look really dry sometimes. I've thought about using a nail conditioner..but I'm a big chicken to try anything new. Its not that big of a problem right now so I'll hold off on that until I can forsee an approaching issue. |
