My girl, Sasha, had a nail split horizontally on her back paw almost all the way around! The quick was exposed and looked painful. The advice I was given was to go ahead and cut the nail and use flour to stop the bleeding...or wait and take her to the vet. I took the 2nd recommendation. She has been in a MUCH better mood since having the nail cut!
