| Hope this helps someone This is a heads up for you and any of your animal loving friends...... ..............I had a horriable disaster one week ago today. I lost one Yorkie female and one was at the vet from Thursday night until Tuesday evening. Later the culprit was found to be wild (Poison) mushrooms and it was confirmed by the vet. Apparently the girls ate or played with the mushrooms and ingested enough it killed one (within 30 minutes or less) and put the other in ICU for 3 days and other 2 days for observation. Mia is only about 4 lbs and Maggie was right at 5 so it wouldn't have taken much. My husband had let the girls out in the back yard for a while right before he went to work so they could do their bathroom duties and get a breath of fresh air. When he called them in all came back but Maggie. Our son was over and he started looking over the yard for her and couldn't find her anywhere. To make a long and terrible story short, Travis did find her lying on the ground under the boat dead. Mia was showing signs of some kind of toxin when I got home and that is why I rushed her to the vet as soon as I suspected what had happened. My vet said I was just darned lucky I didn't lose both girls cause the first day even he had his doubts Mia would make it. I was in the yard the evening before trimming plants and cleaning up and I never saw a single Mushroom. Of course when I was looking for the problem the next day as soon as I got home to investigate what happened they were all over the back yard under the oak tree and down along the fence line. My goodness how quickly they formed and sooooo many. We have been in a drought for months and just recived quite a bit of rain over a few days, I guess that is what triggered them. Folks please watch your dogs and let all your friends that have pets and small children know what could happen. (these are just as deadly to a child) Maggie was my favorite and I raised her from a puppy and she was with me constantly as soon as I hit the ,she is so missed and I am still just mortified about her death. |

| Oh, I am so very, very sorry for your loss. I'm so glad your other girl will be ok. Hugs to all of you. Yes, mushrooms can pop up overnight. With the right conditions they can grow up to an inch an hour. We have a couple of 'low' areas in our yard that water will collect in and I watch it like a hawk to be sure none are growing there. Bless you for posting this warning. Hopefully it will help others to be aware and perhaps save a life.

| Thank you for sharing. We too get those mushrooms in our grass and it never occured to me that my girls might eat them! They eat grass all the time though so I will have to be watchful. I am so sorry about your babies.

| I'm so sorry for your loss. That would be heartbreaking. I've been wondering about something this afternoon that is similar to this. Yesterday afternoon Bella went outside about 4:00. Then we left and went to my grandmother's until about 6:30. When we got home I put her out again. When she got in the house, there was definitely something wrong. She was acting really sleepy and wasn't her normal self. It was like she couldn't breathe and couldn't keep her eyes open. We gave her some sugar water because we thought maybe it was a sugar drop. I called the vet because I was scared to death. The vet didn't call back but by about 8:30 or so she was acting better. Today she's been playing with Tori and seems to be doing pretty good. When they went outside, I saw Bella with a mushroom. So I got it away from her and put it in a ziploc bag. We have an appointment at the vet tomorrow so I'm going to take it in and see what he says. |

| Ugh...we have mushrooms all over the yard. I try to go out everyday and pull them up by the roots. I get as many as I can see. While I was out in the yard trying to clean them up I caught Winston with one in his mouth. Yes...I ripped that sucker right out of his mouth. Luckily he hadn't eaten any of it. I just watched him for the next day to see if he was acting sick. Thank you for posting this. You really have to watch out for those stupid things!

| I am soooo sorry to hear about your sweet Maggie! My heart breaks for you. You will be in my prayers. Thank you for thinking of others while you are grieving so...with all of the recent rains we have gotten you are right there are mushrooms that were never there (or never noticed before)....nothing can bring back Maggie, but please know how much good you have done sharing your story and you will never know how many little lives you have saved by sharing.

| I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for this post. I have been watching my pups closely, but I honestly had no idea they were that toxic. I have those things in my yard all of the time lately. Never used to. I also wonder if it is because of the drought and now this rain...very strange.

Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | Im so sorry for your loss. I hope your post will save some lives. I lucked out. My Vet always on the reciepts, prints to be watchful of walnuts and mushrooms. We both scour the yard thoroughly before letting the dogs play. I have crows or ravens one of the two that actually drop walnuts and other stuff all over my yard. Again Im so sorry. |

| Thank you so much for sharing this tragedy and giving out this warning. I am so sorry you lost your little one. What a shock it must be. We found mushrooms in our backyard. I kept Daisy away from them, but didn't realize they were so dangerous. I will warn my family and friends and watch out for mushrooms everywhere I go.

| I'm so terribly sorry for your loss of Maggie. I'm so thankful Mia made it though. Just a week ago, my 2# puppy ate part of a mushroom. I didn't see it until she had swallowed some. I induced vomiting with hydrogen peroxide and when I was unable to find out if this mushroom was poisonous, my vet and another vet agreed that she be given the activated charcoal just to be on the safe side. She was awful sick that whole night, but the next day she was back to herself. I was so thankful. I normally keep mushrooms picked so the dogs can't get to them, but this one just popped up before I noticed it. I send heartfelt sympathy for your loss of your precious baby.
