| need tips for best way to give pills My baby is on 3 meds in pill form right now. The only way he'll take them so far is to put them in peanut butter wrapped in cheese. Is this OK or do you all have any other suggetions? |

| That is fine.. As long as he is getting his pills and what ever you are giving him is safe..then good job You can also crush them and put them in yogurt/cottege cheese... My yorkie will eat the chesse and spit out the pill! yes even with peanut butter on it! I dont know how he does it, so I crush them up and he loves yogurt and cottage chesse so he will lick the plate clean.

| that should be fine to do to give him his pills. My hubby teases them a little and gives them plain cheese bites and then puts the pill in a piece. They are loving the treat that they don't even realize it's in there! lol. They were doing what the above poster said, eating the cheese and spitting the pill out. lol.

YT Addict | Harley is on medication right now too....my vet showed me a great way to give it to him. It works like a charm everytime. You open there mouth and try to put it as far to the back as you can...close and hold his mouth closed...and blow on his nose..that makes them swallow. It has worked like a charm with Harley. |

| I've seen pill pockets in the pet stores. I've never tried them though, but it may be worth a try. We just stick the tablet in a chunk of treat or soft food and my 2 will gobble it right up!

| My exp with the pill pockets.. are The bigger dogs will gobble them up, but the smaller dogs dont really like them. They are not the BEST quaility treat..so I think a lot of the "pickier" dogs dont like the taste..

I had to use this with my cats years ago. I've seen this at Petsmart for a couple of dollars.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I keep string cheese in the house for this, if you soften a tiny bit of cheese in the microwave, you can wrap the cheese around the pill. The cheese hardens in seconds, and it doesn't take much cheese to do this. Joey swallows it without even tasting it. He will not take the pills wrapped regular cheese he just eats the cheese off and spits out the pill, the coating is what does it for him, and he doesn't even know that there is a pill inside.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | My father used to wrap pills in cheese until the dogs learned how to separate them and spit only the pill out. I've seen the pill pockets but give mine the old fashion way...by opening the mouth, pushing the pill as far as it will go, immediately shutting the mouth closed and rubbing the throat until I know the pill is down. It's the quickest easiest way. It takes only a second and you know the pill is gone After that, I'll give a treat.

| I put a little peanut butter on a treat and stick the pill to it. I use just enough peanut butter to do the trick.

| Piccolo has to take a pill everyday, and I give it to her the way many posted. (Pill wrapped in cheese.) It works for her. But since she had Pancreatitis in the past, I use fat free cheese, instead.

| I never heard of the blowing thing. I may have to add that to my technique. I've been giving pills to cats and dogs for, gee, 40yrs. Put the pill as far down their throat as it'll go. Close their mouth and hold their mouth closed while I rub their throat in a down motion 'til they swallow. Never had it not work. Treats, it always seems they don't like the treats or separate the treats or whatnot. So much easier to just pop the pill down their throat and be done with it.
