Severe shaking and seizure like symptoms before throwing up Hi, When my almost 4 year old Yorkie Enzo vomits, he usually starts shaking and has shaky legs but only until he vomits. Then, he rests for less than ten minutes and goes about business as usual. He does not vomit too frequently but for some reason it usually happens on the weekend when we are home from work. On Saturday morning, he started shaking uncontrollably, lost his balance, and kept raising his arm - his actions were very seizure like. He vomited 3 times and also pooped. He laid against the couch panting for about 5 minutes and then we put him on the couch. The whole episode lasted about twenty minutes and then he was off and running again. The same thing happened one month ago so we of course took him right away to the vet this time. He had blood taken and has been fine ever since. The first time with this severe reaction, he had boiled chicken the night before. This time, on Friday night, he ate his small "Healthy Edibles Nylabone" bone - this new episode occured Saturday morning. The Vet (filling in for our regular) did not believe he was having a seizure - thought it possibly has something to do with his heart. I have been reading about possible liver problems. Just wondering if any one else's dog has ever had these symptoms? I am still waiting for the test results - I am wondering if my dog was having a problem with protein. However, he has eaten his bones and chicken before on many occasions with no issue. We of course are not going to give him anymore bones or chicken - we want to see if these symptoms occur again. Enzo has not had any other symptoms of liver shunt that I have read. If anyone has any possible insight, I would appreciate it. I would like to talk to our regular Vet about more possibilities. Thankfully, Enzo has been fine, eating and acting normally ever since the episode occurred. Thank you.

Yes, def see your regular Vet. Have a current blood panel done. Also asl them to do a serum Bile Acid Test - this is for liver function, they won't do it unless you ask. Also have his urine checked. Let us know the results

Hi, I know this is an old post but my yorkie 2.5 years old has exhibited the exact same symptoms, and was wondering if you finally figured out what was wrong.

Hi, we never officially got a diagnosis for Enzo. He is now 7 and I have worked very hard to "cure" him the last few years. He was seizure free for one full year but unfortunately had one last week but I think I have an idea why. Here is what I did find out after a million tests, trial, error, etc: 1. Enzo has higher than norma bile acids which meant he could have a liver shunt, common in Yorkies, but an MRI showed he did not have an exterior shunt but most likely has some interior shunting. Blood tests are all normal though so liver is functioning normally. My vet said she has never met a Yorkie yet that did not have some sort of liver issue. 2. We never put him on conventional seizure meds, rather we have been treating him with laser and chiropractic care. That is what I think did the trick along with diet: 3. I had to be super strict with him and eliminate all treats and I make his food. The vomiting stopped completely after I fed him only white fish - I home cook and he eats a combo of whitefish, like cod, haddock or hake, quinoa and pureed frozen chinese vegetable medly mix. After his vomiting stopped, I did start feeding him ground turkey too instead of fish. He gets a tsp of real sardine as a treat and is on Chinese Herbs called Di Tan Tang to control the seizures as well as a multivitamin, calcium supplement and probiotic. The reason I think he had the seizure was because the week before we decided to try bison again to see if he could handle it and he also had a soft rawhide chew for tartar control I got from a vet. He regularly was having an Enzadent chew for his teeth for the past three months but never was interested in the rawhide chew before but ate one the day before his seizure - it has the same ingredient as the enzadent but it is possible that and the bison did it. 4. Enzo will have to get laser and chiropractic treatments for the rest of his life and hopefully this last seizure was just a fluke and we are back to normal. I see you are in Greece so I do not know the pet care you have but if you have a holistic vet in your area, I would encourage going. It could be anything but you need to test for problems, probably change diet and stop yearly vaccinations if you do that. I titre Enzo and he is completed protected without having had a vaccine in 3.5 years...... If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Otherwise, Enzo is happy and healthy = best health he has been in years!

What did the vet say? This JUST happened to our Yorkie. I'm hoping you can tell me what happened with your Yorkie and vet. I see that it wasn't recent, but I would appreciate the help.
